Hi all not posted here for a while.

Anyway after years of driving sheds me and the mrs want to start a family and want something bigger and something to last.

Criteria is Estate we have dogs so we do need an estate.

We do about 14k a year so is diesel really worth it?

Mixed driving my commute is 7miles each way of some a road and residential 30's but I do around 300 a week when you tally up the other journeys.Commute is abit short for a diesel? dpf blockage risk?

Front runners are Volvo v50-v70 d5's with runners up being Mazda 6 estate and Honda accord estates.

Around 4.5-5.5k can stretch abit for the right car

Open to suggestions of other cars and would like owner experiences and opinions of the above.

A lower mileage one of (if you can find one) these would be a good shout:

Or the Mazda6

& the Accord are all good shouts:

I was just looking at the mondeos but kinda don't want to be mondeo man!

I suppose i'll have to test drive.

That accord does look tidy looks like one of the last off line of that generation.

Mazda is tempting esps being lpg aswell.

Problem with the Accord is the £500+ road tax. A manual 2.4 is a better bet - fair bit more economical than the Auto and cheaper road tax.

What's wrong with the Mondeo? Especially with the 5 cylinder engine up front they're the best FWD steer of that segment of cars, in Titanium X spec they come fully loaded they're a nice drive petrol or diesel.

If you don't mind a diesel then a Titanium X Sport in 2.2 form is a very good diesel:

or the Insignia Elite represent good VFM:

heh nothing is wrong with the mondeos! the more I've been scrolling through them the more i'm starting to like them.

I do like that ford blue they come in although it's pretty rare

not too keen on vauxhall I've just never been a fan of anything they've made for years.

Accord is out insurance is far too high compared to a lot of others I don't know what insurance companys don't like about me and hondas i've always had stupid quotes for them.

Same kind of search I'm making at the minute. There's plenty big mileage cars out there but my main worry is buying cheaper motors costing you just as much as one a few thousand more due to a couple of big bills. Thing is, looking for a petrol is almost impossible due to the amount of diesels about now, which with some expensive service items can cost you more money than what you save at the pump. I guess if you buy a fully loaded high spec vehicle then it'll at least be attractive when you punt it on a couple of years later.

I'm looking for a Mondeo Titanium X estate, A4 Avant S line or Passat Highline or R-line with the ribbed leather seats. For 5 grand there are a few just over 100k but I'd be tempted with one a little higher if the DMF and belts/pump have been done.

if you are doing 14k a year I think you could make quite an accrual for bork if you drive a diesel versus a petrol, my very crude maths assuming 30mpg on the petrol versus 45mpg on a diesel will be £1500 quid a year difference. I doubt you will have a DMF or turbo need replacing every year at that mileage, and once its done its done. Perhaps they will never need changing...and a diesel tends to have greater longevity imo, generally speaking.

Try to find a Volvo V70 D5 manual (euro 4 spec). Bloody great cars! Excellent safety, mpg and a good turn of pace (for a weasel).

abit of a bump.. still searching

I've been looking at volvo diesels mainly the v50 seem thin on the ground one i was going to look at went before i got to it the d3's or d4's anyway.. lots of the 2.0 and 1.6 diesels tempted to go for the d5 but they only made them until 09 and don't come with that much I want abit more creature comforts.

Also looking at v60's one i'm interested in has loads of options like radar cruise, blind spot thingy, premium audio only thing is it's done 133k but according to the ad it's had a recent cambelt+waterpump
