Changed my starter motor this morning. Not the easiest of jobs, laying on my back under the car. For anyone attempting this, I struggled to undo the top bolt, which was incredibly tight and totally out of sight. I found a ratchet didnt have the space to move far enough, even though I have a fine tooth ratchet. Luckily I have a compressor and air tools - a 3/8 air ratchet undid the bolts with ease. Old motor off, new one refitted and changed the fuse link while I was under there all in under an hour

I usually use a few 3/8s extensions to bring them to a ratchet a bit further forwards and then it can be done but yes, they are usually done up very tight!

For anyone attempting this for the first time, you cannot see the top cap bolt but you can get your hand in there and feel for it and it is quite obvious when you are in there.

What Peter states wink I also recommend forward planning in case the cap bolts are tired/worn and order a pair of 1-1/4" UNC 3/8 bolts before hand wink
