Well I have took the plunge and bought myself a new car,
It's a Z4 coupe 3.0 07 Si with 47k on it, excellent condition with full BMW Sytner warranty, service history. A few marks are being sorted and I pick it up next weekend, can't wait. Goodbye 350 SLK hello Z4 3.0 si coupe.
Quick one what exactly does the sport button do, couldn't really tell anything changed. I asked the chap and he said it changes the gear change to rev ratio, err on a manual ? Hmmmm not sure on that

Lovely car OP. 
The Sport button just sharpens up throttle response and steering, but I've never felt the need to use it on either of mine - after all when you floor it "Sport" won't give you anything more!

As said, the sensitivity of the throttle pedal would be the main thing you'd notice in a manual I would think.
In an auto, the sport button sensitises the throttle but also makes the 'box choose about two gears lower than it otherwise would, so as to be near to the power band when you floor it.
In reality, unless you are really pressing on constantly, all this does is make the car very, very noisy and thirsty to drive! If it changes the steering weight or speed of gear changes, I can't honestly tell. Don't think I've actually pressed it in the last six months since flicking the lever left into "manual" mode works much better IMO.
As an aside, the sport button in my 9-5 Aero auto is far more useful in the real world as it makes the gearbox hyper-sensitive to anything more than the slightest throttle openings, kicking down instantly to make best use of the mid-range grunt, but letting the box drop back into the highest possible gear as soon as you ease off. This means you can drive in sport mode all the time if you want, the car feels really responsive but with minimal fuel consumption penalty and no bleeding from the ears!!

Very Nice! I have had mine for about 18 months and its great. Fits my road bike in the boot, makes a great noise with one piece of the foam taken out of the "sound generator", also reports high 30s nudging 40mpg on a long motorway drive too. Keep an eye out for the rear springs snapping, a few owners have including myself have had to replace them.
Thanks for all the positive comments guys, I've always thought they were a great looking car and rather rare on our roads, it's almost exactly the same performance as my current car 350slk but looks far more aggressive. It's currently having a service and a couple of blemishes being sorted out. I should collect at the weekend.
