I have noticed today that the central locking from the button on the centre rotating knob is not working. It had been until recently.

It does not illuminate or lock. It does nothing when pressed.

The alarm/immobiliser still activates and central locks and the interior light works correctly, it is just the centre knob that seems to have packed up.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be down to?

I don't think it is down to the door alignment as the Central Locking still works with the alarm.

Bad connection at a guess. Mine mostly doesn't work but then does of its own accord. I find if I press the button repeatedly it normally works again for awhile! I'll investigate one day. It must be the feed to it as my green light doesn't work either when it's playing up. I never use it anyway really.

I never use it, but it was just my niece an nephew were sitting in it today and said how do you lock it?

I tried and it wouldn't work.

If you lift up the centre console the connector is easy to access.

Getting the golf ball off to test the micro switch would fall into the list of jobs titled 'which idiot designed this?'

I traced mine back to poor wiring connections at the central locking unit (early model type) behind the dash. The earth wires inside the connector were poorly crimped. Plus the aftermarket alarm installer had not soldered the joints. Once all tidied up it works again.

Discovered this on my latest Chimaera. Grub screw will not undo with instrument screwdriver so waiting on a 99p ebay special 1/16" allen key. frown

I've had the centre trim off to fix the handbrake warning switch so was halfway there already. There is 12V available at the 3 pin connector and the earth is OK. But checking with a multimeter, pressing the button fails to provide a cct whatsover. Hoping on it being a dirty contact. There is a thread on here by someone who replaced theirs and it was a bit tricky:

Thanks for the replies, might have a look under the centre console this weekend.

I seem to remember reading the door closed switches play a part in its operation so worth removing and testing them.
