So I was making progress along the A31 last night towards Farnham when I noticed a car approach quickly from behind and then hold station about 80 yards back. I slowed a little and what turned out to be a marked traffic car pulled alongside and shone the brightest light I have ever seen into my car. He then dropped a gear and disappeared.

Anyway if it was anyone on here, ta for not pulling me.

I'd have been a bit pi$$ed off at the bright light though! That's a dangerous thing to do to someone who's driving.

I think they were checking to make sure I was aware of their presence without actually showing me a blue light. Well, I assume that was the deal anyhow. They might have been looking to see if there were any clues that I might have stolen it. You know the sort of thing, broken glass, driving with gloves on, palming the wheel etc...

o: - when it's cold I drive the Tiv with gloves on. Saves having to break my fingers off one by one when I get where I'm going. - Streaky

Fair enough, but in a nice warm hard top bimmer on a not too cold night I think it would have looked suspicious.
