Hi guys,

Relatively new to the forums so the usual apologies if this has possibly been touched on before.

Have people who have been 'lucky' enough to get a GT3 had to trade in another GT car in order to do so?

I have a lovely specced GT4, which I absolutely love and have been told there's a good chance I could get a GT3 allocation with the second batch of cars around December time. However it sounds like the only way I can get one is by trading in the GT4 at I assume a list price rather than market value situation (which is not the major problem) I just hink I might like to keep the GT4 if I could

I understand the scratch mine and i'll yours scenario but it this common, have other people had to do this?

Not sure I can even afford/warrant to have both anyway but the GT4 is so damn good, having not driven a GT3 i'm still not 100% it's the right decision but i'm sure if I get the GT3 I will understand why!

Any feedback welcome, cheers

I think if you're guaranteed a GT3 and you can afford to buy and run it I'd bite their hand off. If you want to switch back to a GT4 later you'll have the "overs" from the GT3 in your pocket.

No doubt every centre is different, I'd have thought their main interest is in seeing that IF you sell the GT4, that you sell it to/ through them. If you want to have both and are lucky enough to do so why would they mind - more servicing, bigger relationship etc - except they might think that you are greedy and want to share the love around a bit (whoever would have thought?!). I'd imagine the new GT3 will be available at the experience centre prior to build lock down on a Dec slot car so if you decide you don't like it have driven it there you could always let your OPC give your slot to someone who did. We know from 991.1 GT3 that it's a totally different character of car from GT4 and 991.2 will only broaden that gap I suspect so perfectly possible to justify owning both from that point of view. If like most mere mortals you count yourself blessed to be able to afford to run one at at time then chopping in the GT4 for the next new thing isn't the end of the world either... smile

Thanks for the replies guys, your right it makes sense to spend some time with the GT3 at Silverstone if it's possible before I need to make a decision.

It was more to find out if the people who got allocations for their GT3 had to do a similar thing really and if it was fairly common. I guess all OPC's are different and work in different ways.

In an ideal world i'd like to have them both (at a stretch) for a period of time so I could really make up my mind as to what would suit me best. I don't track that often and on the UK roads you can really only use the car to a small amount of it's capability so the GT4 might be all the car I could need. I guess I have in my mind that it's a step up but more possibly it's just a different car altogether and perhaps it's just the snobbery of it being a 911 rather than a Cayman which is just ludicrous.

Also the hype etc makes you think it's the right thing to do!

My GT3 option did not have any requirement to sell them my GT4.

In fact when I recently sold it, I offered to sell to my OPC and they were only interested as a SOR, and no interest to buy outright. So I sold it to another OPC.

If selling at list ensures you get a GT3, then do it, as OPC's will probably not offer much more than list anyway.

I've heard the same thing directly from one of the sales people at my local OPC, specifically in relation to trading a GT4 to secure the best chance of obtaining a GT3 gen 2 allocation. The GT4 I was looking at (6 months or so ago now) was sold to the OPC off the back of that promise. Hopefully the OPC will come good for the seller!

I was told my GT3 chances would be improved by selling my current GT car partex. I was happy enough with the concept as I only want one. Clearly it would be price dependent, but I can't imagine they'd take the mickey too much.

Yes I agree it is a lovely problem to have, I never thought I would get an allocation for a GT4 at the time but I kept my dposit in for over a year and it finally came good.

Interesting to hear that the OPC didn't want to take the GT4 but as a SOR, like people say all OPC's work in differnt ways.

They seem pretty adamant that the only way I would get a GT3 is by selling them the GT4 although at the moment nothing has been set in stone apart from my deposit being in. I guess the situation may change when the time actually arises.

I guess they could quite easily pass on my allocation to someone else if I dug my heels in to keep the GT4, whether that was the right thing on my behalf to do or not! Might kick myself though if that did happen.

This would really frustrate & niggle me to be dictated to by a dealer from whom you wish to purchase from. I know there's limited numbers of cars & they allocate to frequent purchasers (possibly), loyal customers etc, but I would really struggle to accept to have to pass a car back to enable the purchase of another, if I was going to make a few quid out of it or not, that wouldn't sway my decision to accept their terms of purchase.

I have heard of someone being asked to trade in their GT3RS to be allowed to have the new GT2RS.

He wants to keep both so has been told he can buy it back for a £20k premium eek

So he keeps the 3RS and get the Golden Unicorn 2RS for a £20k premium.

An easy way for the dealer to make an extra £20k profit on the GT2RS without risking the wrath of Porsche for selling above RRP but in my opinion rather unscrupulous

Greed & guess they see it as though they're doing the customer a favour.

Unscrupulous but still a good deal in truth

Yes I know, I think that's possibly half the point. Although I know it doesn't make sense to have both cars, I find it a bit of a cheek that I have to swap the car in. In all honesty I would probably trade it in anyway but the fact that I have to makes me not want to more!

It's intersting to hear the different scenarios of people getting GT3's, some having to play the game a little and some not needing to. On the point of the GT2 as a similar instance that is just plain greedy and one that would irk me quite a bit

I told my dealer from the start that my Spyder would be traded if I got an allocation. No pressure from my dealer but it certainly didn't harm my chances.

I got an allocation, my dealer sold my Spyder (SOR with modest overs for me and a healthy margin for them).

Win / win.

Agree - great deal - any OPC reading this PM me and I'll do exactly the same with my RS smile

I think it depends on the OPC and also your relationship with them. Some OPC's do seem to operate a regime style of trading and I know a few people who, once they achieve their RS allocation, will sell outside of the OPC network to regain some of the losses incurred by having to sell past cars back for list. It's dog eat dog world though so if I was offered a GT2RS, I'd have no issue on trading my 3 RS in for a 20k discount but at the same time, I'd expect a few free flapjacks and possibly a bottle of fizzy water at my OPC! Call me greedy!

it's crazy, more so the posters after saying it's a great deal lol

People are now paying OPC's £20k to let them have a car !

great for flippers and the like but this is a whole new level of underhand dealing.
