trackday insurance
Discussion
am sorting out trackday insurance currently... have been in touch with competition insurance who quote on the following basis per track day....
Insure upto 60K with 6k excess - 379
with 3k excess - 481
upto 40k with 6k excess - 325
with 3k excess - 427
upto 30k with 6k excess - 253
with 3k excess - 355
clearly there is some risk analysis to be had here, some of which depends on which track you go on, how many other cars are there etc etc.... for me the first track day is hopefully going to be bedford evening on the 22nd...
what do you veteran trackboys normally go with? and what advice can you offer me?

Get it on your road cover. CCI seem very expensive to me...
I am currently in contact with "MARSH" insurance who also offer Track Day Driver/Organiser cover and so on to see what they can offer.
I suspect they won't be very different.
After all - Track Days *are* more risky...and there is bugger all competition in the Track Insurance market!
On the companies side I also reckon there is bugger all economy of scale in it too.

Agree that is expensive with that excess.....I have free (or inclided) track day cover for Porker days...the excess is 10% of the agreed value of the car...I don't mind this as it can give you a reality check and if something terrible did happen then you would hopefully get a lot more back than the 10% you would have to put up.

is this standard as part of your insurance deal? if so who are you insured with? can you give a bit more detail? this sounds like a sensible option...
You need to change your road policy to someone who covers track days as well.
Ring Bickley Insurance services. A lot of the GT3 boys use them. I pay £1300 a year which includes £100 for mods and £100 to protect my NCB, so basic price is £1100. The good bit is that I only have to pay an extra £79 a track day for fully comp cover on the circuit. And it is a very comprehensive policy for track days, some policies are not. Ask to speak to Chris Bickley, tell him John Warrington sent you.

oh yes... i think we have a result.... essentially £1100 for the insurance with £140 payable for every trackday. compares well to my current elephant insurance of £833 fully comp but with the competiiton insurance of lets say £325 per day, then I'm essentially quids in after 2 track days...
thanks john... i owe you a beer....

jusr tried classic line and they quoted me for a max of 5k miles per year with pcgb only days at 1212. in principle good except i don't want to restrict my self to that low a mileage... thanks for your help though clubsport...
any other ideas?
anyone?
anyone?
A Manning insure me with road cover and PCGB track days. £850 or so. Just insured the wife's TVR with them - £200 cheaper than the competition at 585 and a discount for a second policy.
Reeeesult.

No worries!
On the point made by Don about A Manning, they only cover PCGB track days which isn't much good for most people. I am doing 3 PCGB track days this year, but about 7 others not with them, hence the Bickley insurance I have.
Now my car is 10 years old I will be looking at Aon Classic cover which should include free track day cover, however it would be no good for your car. Aon's cover may not be as comprehensive as Bickley's either, I shall have to check.
I actually spoke to Chris Bickley at the eponymously named insurance company on Tuesday. He reassured me that his policy (underwritten by NU) was here to stay, despite what some people have been suggesting. It is actually very profitable for NU says Chris. For the first time I don't mind insurance companies making lots of money.......because I am off to Croft tomorrow insured fully comp in a car worth 45 grand. Good stuff.
