I would appreciate some informed advice. The engine light is on due to my EGR being blanked off. Is this in itself an automatic fail? Internet advice is a bit conflicting.

EML is not an automatic fail however if the test station sees evidence of an emissions system that has been tampered with, that is. AFAIK

Thanks for that. The EGR valve is still in place and I had to strip it down to confirm it was blanked myself....It was done prior to my purchase. So visually all standard.

From what I've read on the topic, it won't fail because the MIL/EML is on. It would fail if there was a specific warning light relating to the steering or brakes.
Obviously the MIL could be one of many many things, not safety related, so can't fail because of that, and obviously they won't do any diagnostics to find what the code is relating to.
