The answer is in your post. wink

Two year old premium cars "sell themselves". If they were selling 10 year old Kias, there'd be all sorts of incentives, discounts, hooks, and the rest of it.

Look at it from their side.

They've had an enquiry from Johnny Random, who wants them to drag a car the other end of the country for free, and is already being picky about a bit of marked trim. I'm sure they're busy thinking about what'll happen when you see it - you'll get even pickier, and they'll have to shift it back for free or face a loss from a nightmare customer.

They can probably sell it perfectly well locally, without the ballache. So, no, no wonder they're not that bothered about you...

If you like the car why not hook them by saying if they carry out the work you require you'll come & collect it which means you can enjoy some father son time as well as having a happy GF.

Why should they deliver it for free it's costing them £800.00 most groups don't have their own transporters they use a company who charge them.

Exactly, that could be most of their margin on that car. Couple that with replacing the trim, they may aswell hold out for someone local / not bothered (or noticed0 the damaged trim.

Surely after reading some of the stuff on here, you'd be mad to buy a car over distance that you haven't seen. You will never be happy with it - it will stink of dogs & cigarettes, or have kerbed wheels, or look like a take-away inside etc etc. I honestly think you'd be crazy to do so.

Then buy the one that's closer.

That cleared that one up nicely.

Anyone who buys a used car from a dealer hundreds of miles away, unless it is something rare or exceptional is mad (imo).

Think about the hassle of taking it back for minor warranty work.

We bought a peugeot 208 over 160 miles away. It was around £1k cheaper than anything down here. Had to claim on the warranty for suspension parts and it was sorted at local peugeot dealer no cost.

I was really meaning an older car out of manufacturers warranty, but covered by the selling dealer hundreds of miles away.

i got a car for my FIL across in Bootle (we're in Northern Ireland) and had it transported back. Worked out around £2,000 cheaper than buying the same car here in NI (its not always like that but it was with this one). It was only 6 months old so covered by manufacturers warranty anyway.

I've bought several cars from the London area, I live near Aberdeen.
The last one (a 10 year old BMW 645) needed a couple of things doing, so I called them and we agreed a payment once I'd provided photo evidence.

The ones locally were all higher miles, the climate and winter gritting can be harsh on cars and they tend to be a lot cheaper further south. It is a gamble but one that's paid off several times.
