Secure, high grip water bottle carrier?

I need to buy a water carrier and bottle, but ideally I want something rock solid so I can safely leave it on the bike whilst it is travelling at 70mph on the roof rack to save having to take the water bottle off each time.

So wondering if there is a really good solution out there?

The most secure bottle cage I've ever used is the Elite Ciussi.
It was good enough to keep bottles in place for riding Paris Roubaix!

Elite custom Race worked perfectly on a 2hour CX race in the summer, but needed smaller bottles. Wasn't so good with my larger Camelbak ones.

I have an Elite Custom Race too, the one time I accidentally left a bottle in the cage on the roof, it survived without having moved at all. So...I can recommend it I guess.

And OP, I use mine with the CamelBak Podium 710ml bottles. I've not lost a bottle yet, MTB, road bike, road bike off road. Very secure, and very easy to get the bottle back into the cage without taking your eyes off the road.

The bottles are great too. A 'twist-lock' cap means that even if you squeeze the bottle it won't leak when it's locked, so the bottles can be left in the cage when transporting the bike on it's side in the boot of my car, or left to roll around loose in the boot.

Although, having said all that, I'm currently using fancy Bontrager carbon fibre cages on my good road bike, and a cheap Halfords wire side-entry cage due to lack of space in the frame of my full suspension MTB. That one is great too - plenty secure enough for MTB races. I still swear by the Elite cages on all my other bikes - it's just that the carbon fibre jobbies colour-matched my 'best' road perfectly and I got them thrown into the deal...

A further vote for the Elite. All my bikes have them now and I've never lost anything in a pot hole or similar. Yet you can get the bottle in and out fairly easily!

My bottles survived the Paris Roubaix and Flanders sportives without a single loss. I use them on my XC MTB too.

I use good old aluminum ones and haven't had a problem, even when I've forgotten to take bottles out before putting the bike on the roof. If you want a bit more hold you just bend it in a bit.

Same bottles, same cage on both my road and mountain bikes. Never lost one yet. I'm much more likely to come off my mtb than the bottle is.
