C63 advice please!
Discussion
Hi all,
Im dipping (potentially) my toes into the C63 ocean!
I have looked at a car at an independent dealer. 12 registration, obsidian black, black leather, DAB, HK, reverse camera, blind spot assist, distronic plus with pre safe brake, illuminated door sills...
20k miles and full MBSH...
All looks good...But upon viewing the car it has a few stone chips on the bonnet and front wings, and a few stone chips on the front headlight lenses. Interior is as new.
What do you think?

Thanks for the quick reply ecain63
I was just wondering if these are things to be concerned about at all? I keep on reading about these perfect second hand c63's people keep on buying!??
Also down the line will these stone chips affect resale value at all?
Many thanks

That's a pretty well loaded C63 there. Mines a 63 plate (same colour) and the bonnet has/had severe road rash which I've managed to Chipex out. Mines on 35k miles at the moment, but I've been to various places in Europe such as Monaco, Le Mans 24 (x2), Rome, Lake Garda, Thun, Cologne + 140mph+ on the autobahns etc. However, my car is not a daily driver but still it picked up the chips etc.
What makes it worse is that, for some unknown reason, Merc opted for a white primer (although the bumper appears to have a black primer).
Nature of the beast with that colour.

I'd be more concerned with a perfect bonnet etc which would demonstrate that the seller had the bonnet resprayed. The colour is awesome, but it's a pain in the c**k for scratches and chips.

I think the bumper has had a respray because its free of any stone chips!dalenorth said:
2500 miles in 2 years!!? Once you get one you'll understand how strange that is!!
Don't let me put you off though, it could of been someone's 3rd car or something.
Apparently some wealthy older gentleman was the previous owner.Don't let me put you off though, it could of been someone's 3rd car or something.
I thought it was a bit unusual too...is there anyway to be sure the mileage is correct apart from the info MB have already given to me?

Driver seat side bolster wear could give a clue if you concerned low mileage inconsistent with apparent front end stone chipping.
I would expect the bolsters to be in pretty good nick at that mileage.
I was told the drivers bolster had some wear and was sorted out. I have read the drivers bolster is a weakness in that it wears fairly quickly.I would expect the bolsters to be in pretty good nick at that mileage.
Rest of the car looks great. No wear to steering, gear knob, switches etc...

A lot of people say they bought a "perfect C63" because it justifies the purchase. Look at Facebook to see the standard of ownership thereafter. Price point innit!

I used to set the memory seat options as 1 for me, 2 for the wife and 3 for exiting the car. It took a little bit of effort every time you got in and out but it made a massive difference to the seat.
Good luck with your search, they are amazing cars!
Dear friends,
So I bought an obsidian black one.
A few points that were not mentioned.
The three button lumbar support does not work. Fuse blows.
The brakes squeak when coming to a standstill.
Despite being told the tracking was done it pulls to the left.
Kick plate trim loose with a broken clip.
Mismatch in front bumper paint to rest of the car.
Stone chips on windscreen.
My predicament is that I like the car, but these things are putting me off.
Any advice please?
Many thanks

Brakes do squeal, that's just performance brakes for you. They don't use grease behind the pads on these cars. Obviously, check the pads are genuine and the thicknesses of both pads and discs.
A lot of C63's pull to the left. Usually at motorway speed and it's due to camber. Merc can fix this for UK cars using special tools. They were designed originally for Europe and it's just one of those things.
Kick plate, it's a used car. Did you ask for this to be fixed before you bought? Did you buy from main dealer or from indy / private?
Front bumper paint is common. What's the miles? It's a few years old and driven on British roads. It will get chipped. Anyone who says their car has no chips is talking rubbish.
Windscreen will chip as per bumper. Usually due to motorway miles.
If it's putting you off now, should you have bought it?

All your points are valid. Thank you for taking the time.
Yes its a used car bought from an independent dealer. I did not notice the kick plate until i got home. it has 22k on it. 2012 year.
I was not aware of the pulling to the left (did not drive the car as the dealer drove it on the test drive). As for the seats, i went to make some adjustments and no movement.
Funny thing, on the said test drive i mentioned to him that i tried to make adjustments to the seat but could not feel anything...he said that 'they dont really move at all'
Only when i got home and did a bit more research it was apparent that they do move, and if the fuse blows all the time its the wiring...expensive fix.
If the dealer was more honest from the start i probably would not have bought it.
Am i able to get a refund?

Was the car cheap for what it was?
If you've only just collected it then you can return it. You may meet resistance but you do have a cool off period.
It does sound like the dealer was a bit sly ref the seats

Yes i think he was less than forthcoming regarding the seats. I only bought it yesterday. So its a 2012, with 22k.
Full MBSH.
Options as follows, Harmon/Kardon, DAB, reverse camera, illuminated kick plates at front, distronic plus, lane assist, blind spot assist, light package.
A few more things which i cant remember.
Im not sure of where the market is with these cars but i paid £28k.
Whats the cool off period please?
Many thanks
