By NW I mean around flintshire/cheshire?

Basically back in 2012 ish I bought myself a bike! But I was too unfit to cycle it up my gravel drive, which was about a 25 deg incline and about 35m long.
This was back when I smoked and couldn't walk 100 meters without passing out. Now I walk 6 miles a day and haven't smoked since the end of 2013.

The other thing I remember is that I could never get the wheel to line up with the stem and having OCD this majorly annoyed me. So the bike sat unused.

It is this

I wanna start riding it again (but away from roads and pavements!) but all of the trails I have been looking at are downhill which obviously requires going back uphill. Walking up a mountain tires me very fast so somewhere flat would be ideal.
Also where can you get clothing for tall and fat people for biking? I imagine no one wants to see builders bum on the end of a saddle.

Any ideas? Thanks

I live in Penymynydd and ride with a Facebook group based in Chester called Simply Grey.

https://www.facebook.com/SimplyGreyRiding/

We tend to ride the back lanes of Chrshire and Flintshire at a moderate pace.

The group has recently started a 20 mile group ride which is predominately flat, so this may be better for you to find your legs and ease yourself in....

Let me know if you're interested?

Have you no canals near you? They tend to be flat and can have great surfaces.

Dont be afraid to put the bike in the car and drive to where you start if it makes life easier. Once you've done it a few times you will soon be setting off from home. Main thing is to enjoy it so go at a pace you are happy with.

I know it's probably a bit far from you but this

http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure,_culture_an...

It's about 10 miles long (full length) , reasonably smooth (I've ridden it on a road bike several times) and wide (2 paths on the vast majority of it's length)

I got both my daughter and wife into cycling by riding on it - lots of car parks close by and easily possible to do 7 or 8 miles one way and back again.

Still do it occasionally with the dogs running along side.

I park up at Knutsford and cycle out from there. It's all flat and quiet lanes.

Saves fighting out of Manchester. Just to much traffic.

Good on you, much as I take the piss out of you for doing nothing about your fitness kudos for giving it a go! thumbup

There are two Allen keys holding the bars, just loosen them slightly and you can twist the bars to line them up. You shouldn't need to undo the central stem bolt to just give them a tickle.

Stick at it, cycling can change your life. It never gets easier you just go further...

Out of interest, where are you based?

The whole plain from chester over to Macclesfield is a huge web of quiet, nice and flat lanes.
Cheshire cycleway is good.
Tarporly, great budworth, the peovers, jodrell - list is miles long!

For good routes, check out strava and bike route toaster. Both will have other people's rides yoiu can take inspiration from.

It does have to get very, very cold before they'll hold your weight though! hehe
