Door card removal
Discussion
Morning,
I thought I'd have a productive morning and replace my cigar lighter as the current one has rusted and doesn't work.
I've accessed the door through the speaker and the found 3 bolts as planned.
The problem is the door panel still seems to be fixed. Have I missed a 4th bolt? or is it likely to be glue which just needs a bit more persuasion? I don't want to force it in case something breaks.
Also, there are 2 large screws on the underside of the door, at the lock end. Does anyone know what these do?
Many thanks

If you gently pull the door card away from the bottom of the door and lift upwards it should come off. The door card actually hooks onto the top of the door hence the lift upwards advice.
Also 3 electrical connections to unplug if you intend to take the door card completely off.
The 2 screws at the bottom of the door hold one of the window channels in place ......SO LEAVE WELL ALONE.
Edited to add if you have an ashtray, remove it as there is a self tapping screw behind it.

It depends on the year of build. My last Chimaera (2000 reg) had 4 bolts holding the door trims on. But my current 1996 model only has 3.
I can only think customers complained about flexing of the door panels when they shut the doors so they added a 4th bolt. Seems just as secure with 3 and doesn't require the 'vets arm manoeuvre' to get the last nut off.

I am not sure if this will be of any help, and I didn’t use this idea when I removed and re fitted my own door casing (I hadn’t thought of the idea at that time). But I used it when re fitting my dash. Instead of struggling to get a nut started without cross threading it, and then getting a spanner into inaccessible places, I used one of these.

They are not designed for this purpose, but by locating a bolt into the thread, and clamping them up, they make a wing-nut with 4 wings. And as it also now has a built in washer, it self aligns so making it easier to start with less risk of cross threading.

Do they have a name? Look to be a good idea
