Working in the garage today and walked past the griff and bumped the mirror.
It then fell onto the door (no damage).

Its totaly had it, the mirror assembly has parted from the cast alloy arm and broken the mirror inside where it fits.

I know these are a fairly expensive item (for what they are,old citroen) has anyone had a similar experience? and done a repair or are there other mirrors i can consider that do not require painting (carbon fibre) or do i bite the bullet and get a new one?

The constuction looks weak and i was told this earlier on in the week by joo when i was at donny(track days working them loose etc) but i havent even had a track day yet and i only nudged it FFS (although with over 15 stone)

Paul,

I updated mine with the VW ones - well worth it from durability / accessibility point of view.

I have the old mirrors in Chesterfield if you are interested, but as most of them tripods broke when removing (only replaced 6 months previously....)

Yep, I got a pair last year - top dollar but brand new.

I think the VW upgrade is corrado but I may be wrong - there are some inserts that fit into the rececess(??!?) and the VW fit on to them.

From the pics I've seen it looks a sturdy/better job - best of luck

What's that 'metro' on your profile?? Are you going to but a bid in for Rover?????

Northern, its a 25 year old good metro shell, we have nitromorsed it back to the metal and its had 6 coats of white smoothrite (just as good underneath as on top).
It has been spaceframed and turreted.

It will have a renault 25 turbo engine and gearbox driving the rear wheels with a uprated turbo and custom ECU producing around 320/350 BHP with aweight of around 800kgs (TVR eater).
It has vast amounts of carbon fibre and you dont want to know the cost so far!!!

Dude,

TVR Eater, I recon the Ultima Boys might also have a problem with that power to weight ratio.

Well done mate, keep us upto date with this other piece of 'Brit-Pop'.

Northern.

Same thing happened to me recently. I bought a new cast iron tripod from David Batty and replaced the damaged one, a challenging job !!!!! you are welcome to contact me for details.

Got a pair of LE adapter bosses and two Carrado mirrors coming but thanks.

I always felt the citreon mirror was a bit flimsy and the VW items seem a better option

Got the whole lot from good ol' ebay at a good price
