I'm looking at buying a TVR S3 1992 and have been to have a look at one.

As far as I can see it does not have the cooling fan housing over the radiator. We took it for a test drive and had it running on the drive for 10 minutes or so and I didn't notice any over-heating signs so is it normal not to have a cooling fan fitted?

Any help and guidance much appreciated!

Hi Ridoki,

On the later cars the fan is located in front of the radiator, not easily seen from the engine bay.

The chassis is the main point to be concentrating on, I think it's fair to say that if it hasn't been attended to by now then it will need doing. The extent of corosion isn't easily seen until the body has been lifted.

Which car are you looking at? Maybe someone here will know of its history.

The cooling fan is fitted in front of the rad and not easy to see from the engine bay. You should be able to see it through the front grill when the bonnet is closed. The cooling fan is essential to avoid overheating so it is sensible to test that it works correctly - the noise and air blast should be very obvious when it comes on.

Thank you both Laurie and Green. Yes, I saw on further web investigation that the housing was in front and not behind the rad. Didn't know that was on later ones though!

Owner is a member on here and he has a great history file for the car. Chassis has been treated and it all looks really solid, although I don't think is was a body off job.

It was a Cat C write off some 7 years ago after being hit on front near side - left wishbone, new bonnet and mounting which would probably explain the write off as wouldn't have been a cheap repair from insurance perspective.

Handled well on test drive, no "wandering" or undue clunks or other such noises but am aiming to have it inspected more thoroughly.

Thank you again for the help.
