Hi, just putting this out to hear from anyone in, or who has had, an 'age gap' relationship?

It's not exactly uncommon, but I can see there are bridges to cross; friends, families, life stages you are at, memories of stuff when you were kids, what you want in the future, physical condition etc.

Interested to hear experiences that it has worked for you long term or of why it didn't work out in the end.

Worst "I've got a hot young filly" thread ever.

All of those probs can exist for people of similar ages. I think once you hit proper maturity, say 25 or so as a median, it doesnt really matter.

Her is 25 years younger than me.
Together 8 years.
Married 6 years.

Having the times of our lives.
No hurdles , just honesty and love.
Her family were great, they didn't see any age gap.
My family have been very good, and welcomed her with open hearts and arms.

Best move ever.

Not much to say really, we both work full time,
Bought a house together, paid it off within 4 years.
Her is accountant, me engineer.

Ten years my junior. She was 25, I was 35. Didn't work out but nothing to do with the age difference. If two people are into each other an age gap shouldn't really matter. Women mature faster than blokes anyway.

It is my understanding that statistically, relationships that feature an older male are more likely to succeed than same aged couples.

That includes couples that have a large age gap such as 20 years or whatever. Conversely, relationships are statistically more likely to fail if the male is notably younger than the woman.

Since the Mrs is only a few years younger than myself, I can only rely on the experiences of those around me, and the guys in know relationships with much younger women seem very happy.

One of my good friends has just had his first child aged 42 with his girlfriend of 21. He is very happy and she couldn't be happier either.

I don't see any problems with it.

When she retires (at 67) he'll be 88. Surely that could cause issues?

Not if he's dead.

My biggest and briefest was about 15 years my junior. It was too weird for me. Nothing to do with maturity or cultural references, but someone that much younger will always be at a different stage of their life no matter what happens.

I wouldn't want to go the distance with that type of age gap either. Someone I know in her 50s has an 80something ex who's still latched on to her and isn't going anywhere, mainly because he can't walk any more.

I'd prefer to cark it at the same ish time or decay together. There's no way I'd want to burden someone with 20-30 years more of good health with my rotting body.

I am 49 and Mrs Plinth is 65.
Both retired and have been together for 20 years.
We are not married (never will be!) and live in seperate houses (a few hundred yards apart).
Unusual, but it works for us.

I'm 49 and wife is 32.

Been together four years and married for two.

Expecting first child in November.

Can't say we've ever really noticed the age gap.

In fact I'm racking my brains here trying to think if it's ever caused a problem at all....can't think of anything.

For us because neither of us work - although she might do something next year after baby is born - we spend a lot of time together and go out loads as a couple - bar, restaurant, club, beach, cinema, with friends, shopping for clothes etc.

That's changed a bit now she's preggo but we still do stuff together - cooking is a good example.

She is a bit jealous as I've got two friends coming to stay next month and we'll be going to a two day dance music festival - decided she probably shouldn't go at 6 months pregnant. I'll have to make it up to her somehow as she's gutted to be missing it.

I'm 9 years older than my wife. Not such a fuss now I'm 37, was a little different when we met as I was 24 though... hehe

Age is but a number. She's far more mature than I'll ever be!

I’m 46 and my girlfriend is 25. We have been together nearly 6 years. She has a mental age of 826 and so it has worked very well!

I understood there's a rule of thumb on age gaps.

AFAIK, it's half your age plus seven. Therefore, my sought-after would be 37.

Just saying, thassall.
