Bank Holiday Weekend decided I was going to do some ladscaping so off to HSS I go to hire a turf cutter. Correctly informed too heavy to fit in boot of car and they would have to deliver. Dropping off Friday AM and Picking up Saturday AM. Along comes Friday and I take a half days holiday, I should have worked 7-3 but with half day holiday home by 11am. Turf Cutter eventually turns up at 3pm (slightly angry but have negotiated no delivery cost and 20% off rental price.
No-one picks up on Saturday and told it will now be Tuesday (ie today). So have to store the thing for a few days, luckily wife on Maternity leave so is able to stay in and HSS advise it will be between 8:30 and 10:30. Anyway they are now evidently picking up at 1pm. Completely screwed up my wife's day, set my weekend project back 4 hours before I even started. Wasted half days holiday from work. Complete shambles from HSS and very little to no sympathy when phoning my local branch to find out why they haven't done the most basic of tasks.
If they don't turn up today to collect said Turf Cutter is there any way I can charge them storage ???
On a positive the weather was great and my weed patch is now a nicely barked Children's play area !!!!

)I work in the industry. The problem is supply and demand. Bank holiday weekends are crazy busy as are all Fridays TBH.
On top of that traffic is generally very bad. Matters are made worse by staff (such as yourself!) taking half days / days off around this time. Drivers want to go on holiday at the worst times!
We book up to 80% capacity then stop taking orders for Fridays before BH. Its the only way to get everything done. We do not offer timed delivery on BH weekends either, its 8-6 basically.
Amazon / Tesco / DPD etal cause a lot of these issues because they run such prompt delivery services with very small delivery windows. However they are not regulated the same do not have tachographs do not have to drive large vehicles and do not have to handle bulk items which need loading, unloading etc.
We put a lot of customers off with our T&Cs on our website but frankly I don't care because I would rather people get a very clear picture of what we will do rather than try and achieve the impossible just for the sake of sounding good.
