60103 came through a station near my office this lunchtime on a positioning run, sadly backed off the steam just as he got to us due to a modern coming the other way, still happy with the photo though.

Odd to think Flying Scotsman going past my house. As a little boy I'd have been so excited about that.

I'll be off down the road to watch 35028 on Sunday, all being well. I've never before seen a Merchant Navy at speed.

Unless you've got tickets to go on the train i'd avoid bishops lydeard/minehead stations as there caged in.

I've just had a look through my photo collection on Flickr and I haven't got one of a MN at speed to show you - plenty of WC/BBs tanking it but no MNs.

Me and my girlie are getting hitched in October and have been bought as a wedding present (by our very very very good friends) a day on the Flying Scotsman!

We are booked on the Norwich to King's Cross London run, including food, and I'm absolutely delighted to spend a day on board.

We arrive at 18:00 which gives an hour to leg it to the champagne bar before returning to Norwich pulled by a diesel. Im fingers crossing its a Deltic but love any lumpy diesel!

I made a pilgrimage down to the bridge last night, in the gathering dark and rain. The firebox door was opened as it passed by illuminating the cab, the smoke and steam and the cutting like a Cuneo painting. A wonderful stirring sight.

I always find, when watching steam engines at speed, that its quite difficult to fully absorb the spectacle. The motion whirling around, the smoke billowing, the noise, the sheer presence of the thing. As compared to any form of diesel or electric where a quick glance tells you all you need to know.

Robin, if you should see this, I've got limited time this afternoon to get into position to photograph the Belmond coming through, I have to be somewhere within a few miles of Chippenham - with your knowledge of the local train network, any suggestions that beat the Kellaways / Langley area?

I tried Chip station last time and photos weren't very good at all.
