Accelerometers any good!

I used the G-Tech pro today and got a decent result for the 0-60 time but are they any good! Book says +/- 1/10th second accuracy.
Anybody else used something like this!

They are a good toy - particularly useful for setting up handling (mark out a nice big circle in Tesco's car park and check your lateral G!)and braking.

The ones I have used, however, have been significantly optimistic on accleration (...like up to 15% optimistic). They don't 'know' the actual speed of the car - they calculate it by extrapolating from repeated measurements of the acceleration, and I think the algolrithms used deliberately err on the side of flattery!

They may have got better since I last played with them, but my advice would be to use them for comparative figures only, not absolute accuracy to a tenth of a second.

Wasn't impressed by my old G-Tech one, but the race-tech ones seem very repeatable and the more expensive models use GPS to avoid integration errors on long runs.

cyclone1 has one and does the santa pod runs (there again on sunday i think) .. his gtech is a couple of tenths fast over the quarter mile (like shows 12.5 on a 12.7 run), that's good accuracy i would say for a non-gps unit for 40 pounds off ebay.

For the price it's a pretty good toy.

My G-Tech was actually showing a slower time over the quarter, but a faster terminal time? But it was only a couple of tenths and 2/3mph out, which is not bad at all.

Mines an ebay £40er, ran the car up 4 times accelerometer was within 2/10th's every time so even with say a 2/10th's correction the car is still sub 7 seconds (just). Not bad for a thirty year old car! I've got to play with the G's and BHP next.

I spoke to them earlier this year said they could do me a deal (just down the road too) but I had to have the G-Tech for £40.

yup , looks good .. and i like my gtech so much i might invest .. but as a plaything it's three times the price of hte ebay gtechs so only for those who really want it. looks neat tho ..

Yeah when I bought it the differential was about 30 quid (the ebay Gtech's weren't around). Sold it for 80 quid and it's still going strong

I like the idea of integrating the GPS for even more accuracy.
I'm going to input the vehicle weight today and test the BHP, I have a rolling road report so It will be interesting viewing results!
