997 Bore Scoring
Discussion
Plus a 997 with a rebuild of debateable quality vs a full Hartech rebuild is going to be worth considerably more come resale time, whilst I don't think you would ever get the all the money back on a rebuild I would wager you would get more than the difference between the two back. If your going to keep the car forever it's not a concern as long as the cheaper rebuild outlives you !
Thanks for the support everyone.
Just for the record - our cost for remove, strip, clean. and rebuild an engine complete with all new gaskets and seals, re-fit, re-commission with new fluids, A/C recharge and test including all 6 new high strength alloy Nikasil closed deck cylinders, exchange Xylan re-coated pistons, new rings, all new crankshaft bearings, new timing chains and guide rails, new intermediate shaft bearing, basic cylinder head overhauls (c.w. new seals), LTT, spark plugs and an air oil separator - is only £7,500 + Vat.
Less done costs less, more done costs more.
Rather than quote just for what the unsuspecting owner asks for (say just a new liner at under £5K + Vat) and then inflate the cost once the engine is apart and more work and/or parts are found to be needed - we prefer to discuss the whole job after a professional assessment and try our best to provide what our customer is seeking.
Many prices that others quote to be Hartech typical actually include other work like new flywheels, radiators etc and can be misleading.
Our charge just to fit 6 liners (that includes re-work to coolant passages, head skim etc) is little more than alternative inferior solutions.
I would advise anyone that is contemplating and engine rebuild (or needs one) to actually speak to us (and indeed others) and ask exactly what you are getting for your money rather than allow figures that might be misleading to cloud their judgement that they might regret afterwards.

Hi Doc,
that's quite difficult to answer because we are currently experiencing a surge in enquiries and have to prioritise specialists with whom we have contracts for engine rebuild work and the oversized engines are coming on stream leading to an expected rise in demand this Autumn. Meanwhile we have only just got a full compliment of staff back after their summer holidays - so a bit of a backlog to work though.
We are continuing to invest in new machinery to speed up production but despite that - at the moment - once we have caught up - it looks like about 4-5 weeks to complete.
Although we carry stocks of all the parts needed and carry out all the work in house - the longest delays are ironically caused by owners contemplating what specification to apply once the engine has been stripped and assessed - and can slow down throughput.
If you are interested please call us to discuss further.
