Hi, what are your thoughts on the following.

Looking for a second car that will be fun to drive, Very tempted by the Seat leon Cupra lease deal which works out approx £6200 over 2 year, however i'm also thinking it maybe wiser to spend 10k on a used golf Gti, which in 2 years time would still be worth something. Ill only be doing between 6k & 8k per year in it as we have a diesel for everyday use.

What are Golf Gti's like at holding there value? if i spend 10k on one now, what are they likely to be worth in 2 years time (crystal ball anyone), are there any known faults which could result in a big bill? ( appreciate its going to be a 7,8,9 year old car so i would expect the usual wear and tear bills)

Cheers in advance

Mark

This is a choice I have wrestled with many times on these exact two cars. The Cupra won last time as lease deals came up on the 290 Black last year for about £5400 over two years so it was a no-brainer and we are very happy with the car.

wont bore with the ins and outs of the decision but when you weigh up the running costs of a used car (£10k buys you what, a nice 2010/11 GTi?) including road tax etc is difficult to choose it over getting a great lease deal on a shiny new car with the latest tech etc. So in just over a years time we will probably go for another lease on a Cupra or similar.

The one thing that might make me choose a used GTi is it's a nicer feeling owning the car rather than renting it but I own other cars so not that big a deal to me.

This exactly, I'm not really fussed about owning the car as we also own another car, I've always previously bought on PCP and more often than not I get bored at around the 18 months/2year mark and end up chopping it in for something else which normally costs me more money, which is why i was thinking about a 2 year lease or coughing up and buying a 2nd hand car outright (not getting any interest in the bank so may as well spend it on a car)

How have you found the Cupra, running cost etc?

cheers

Surprisingly good really! Basically ours is 3 quarters family runabout and a quarter hooning toy for me. It does both jobs really well and overall we get low thirties economy which I am well pleased with.

I am planning on switching the tyres front to rear on the first service in a couple of months which should just about mean it goes back with road legal tyres (it will have done about 15k by then).

Was thinking of a Cupra 300 lease as our first family car (Mrs is due in March), but she's worried about the ride being uncomfortable because it's a 'sports' model with big alloys. She's used to driving an old diesel Polo, but I'm convinced she'd be pleasantly surprised.
