First foray into Boxster Ownership
Discussion
Morning,
We are just in the process of starting to look for a boxster. It will be a third car and mainly used by my wife. We have never had one but have read up and I think we are going into the process with our eyes open.
Current thoughts are a 2005/6 car with a good history file known issues sorted.
I just wondered if anyone here was selling as I'd always rather have some link to the previous owner!
Cheers

Have a look on Boxanet if you haven't already, there's usually something worth a look at sensible money on there. I got mine from another member on there last year, and it's been a great car for me. I'd look for a 2005 if you don't want to pay mad money every year to tax it, but the story goes that the 2006 model has the better IMS bearing. However, nobody ( not even Porsche ) can tell you exactly when this was upgraded, so you may end up with the worst of all worlds in a 2006 car!

Thanks very much, I have registered and am lurking There was a post on here either at the weekend or earlier this week from a PH'er who had a one owner 2007 (I think) low mileage 2.7 Boxster 987 in silver. He was asking about values so his post may have been removed. It is a shame because it might have been a good car to consider. I don't know if anyone can remember his PH name?
Again another vote for Boxanet.
I actually bought Heaveho's (first) 2005 987 3.2S. It's an absolute cracker - I drove it to the alps this year and it was sublime in the twisty bits.
To keep them in tip-top condition you will need to budget a bit for various wear and tear, but that's the case with any sports car a dozen years old. I've had it just over 18 months, and so far have replaced:
- Rear springs
- Air-con radiators (this is a common problem)
- Air con pipe
- Mass air flow sensor
- Steering rack
- Air/Oil Separator (this is also a fairly common failure)
All the above was probably £3k.
Annual services at a reputable indy are £250-400.

Hi Tom, glad you're still enjoying it, the Alps trip sounds good craic. Furthest I've managed in mine are two return trips from Newcastle to Southampton, need to expand my sense of adventure!I actually bought Heaveho's (first) 2005 987 3.2S. Sounds good. I'm just starting to look at a 987 2.7s as a possible first Boxster purchase. I'd be interested to see what you ended up with and how you're getting on with it. Cheers..
I would say do some reading and homework on boxa.net Lots more active owners there. You can read running reports etc and will soon enough with some medium term regular reading pick up on most of the common faults or failures.edc said:

Thanks - I signed up last week and have been doing just that Well we've had it a week and TBH I've not driven it much as it's my wifes car however in the short drives I've had in it I have been really impressed. It's like proper driving again. We recently got an ftype which is wonderful thing but the boxster is just direct in every way. Great steering, feels utterly planted, and we love the engine note.
The clutch bite is high so I think we'll need a clutch soon, I'll an opinion from the indy (barr tech) on the ims and if we should do anything, apart form that and a little bubbling on the nsr wheel arch it is spot on so far.
We bought privately, 2 owner, 56,000 miles full service history. The lady we bought it off had clearly done her research before she bought the car a few years ago.
My wife is loving it, I wish I'd bought her one 15 years ago!
Cheers
