My old Meta alarm/Immobiliser started to cause central door locking problems so I decided to replace the whole system. Apparently Meta are no longer manufactured but some suppliers sell reconditioned units.

There are numerous inexpensive alarm/immobilisers on the market but the specifications are somewhat vague.

One system the Toad is fully described and has specifications that match or even exceed the old Meta system e.g. having hefty relays for the immobiliser instead of the rather small relays in the Meta. The immobiliser and alarm are also contained in a single compact unit.

One advantage of the Toad is that fitting a fob operated boot lock is comparatively simple by just adding a relay.

The system is rather more sensitive than the Meta so that the fob can be operated from much further away, this however can be a disadvantage if criminals are picking up the fob signal to decode it.

During the installation I took the opportunity to install a power outlet in place of the previous panel light switch, a simple process that just needed the hole filing out a bit. This saves trailing cables for Sat-Navs etc. from the door cigar lighter socket.

I had already changed the panel light switch to a fan override so moved this to the panic button position on the extreme left of the dash, as this was never used.
