Feeling completely uninspired. When my son gets to the same age will be a piece of p1ss, but I am really struggling.

I actually asked her what she wanted. ' A surprise' was the answer. Great!

There's any number of 'plastic fantastic use once or twice, end up in the cupboard a week later, only to be chucked in a year' we could get, but wonder if any of you have been in a similar position and have then got that 'totally nailed it' feeling once the pressie was bought.

She's not very girly, not very sporty (although loves swimming/horseriding), loves animals, is very bright and interested in stuff in general, but not really one thing. Her favourite toys are playmobil stuff.

Lego.

Or an event rather than a thing?

Tickets to a horse show (Burghley, Badminton, etc or a smaller one). Big list here:

I feel a bit sorry for your son if he's going to receive a piece of piss for his 8th birthday...

A hamster or similarly short lived pet. She can enjoy it, then the creature will do the decent thing and snuff it once it is no longer the centre of attention.

No need to swear; it's present ideas, I haven't run over your pet.

Just ideas. I did suggest Lego in my first one... who doesn't like Lego?

does she like reading? - an amazon kindle. A watch? A funky alarm clock that lights up etc? Lego set (fairies etc if she doesn't like standard type) - could order lepin from aliexpress if you've got time to wait for delivery before her birthday.

V8 powered chainsaw.

Obviously you'll have to look after it until she is a bit older but I think it's a good idea...

For her next birthday you could buy her a nitrous kit for it... Then the year after maybe a supercharger... Stronger rods... Big bore kit...

Every year she could add to her V8 powered chainsaw until she had the best V8 powered chainsaw in the street/school.

Sylvanians of course http://sylvanianfamilies.net/uk/mb/

It's the one toy my daughter and her friends still play with now and she's 13. Bought it when she was about 8 yo.

Excellent - that will then get her into water polo.

My daughter is 8 in a couple of months.
I've found she likes lots of smaller things rather than one big item.

Easel, a few blank canvases and acrylic paints, HobbyCraft
A Gymnastics bar, Amazon
Dinner at an interesting restaurant
Her own Kindle
Clothes
Anything from Smiggle

Personal appearance by David Beckham, Ollie Murs, Justin Bieber... one of those types.

Will cost a few quid but she's your daughter and you can't put a price on that.

If not, an ironing board.
