Hi guys, sorry to return to this old bla bla about tyres, the problem is my car has the electronic ride and I don’t know if this is why I don’t partially find the EMT Tyres noisy or because I just don’t have anything to compare them to. I have done a reasonable amount of miles 26,000 on this first set although the NS Rear has developed what I would normally attribute to over inflation wear on the tread pattern and is now past its best, although according to Gixer its because of sliding around roundabouts. After searching I have found the following information on the forum John at NHT has non run flats but another tyre company in Kingston said that it should be the EMT or they wont sit on the rims and possibly damage the sensor, so many different views and cant seem to find availability or good price on the Goodyear’s anyway. I have been quoted between £220 - £350 each for EMT

I can personally recommend the Kumho Ecstra tyres
Spoke to NHT on your behalf Chris!

Front 245/45-17 Kumhos at £71 + VAT each
Front 245/45-17 Falken at £85 + VAT each
Rear 275/40-17 Falken at £111 + VAT each

Kumho don't currently do the rears for a C5, but Falken do.

So after much research and buggering about...

The ONLY RunFlat for 245/45/17 Y for the Corvette available in the UK without special import is:
Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT's

Others who make RunFlats are but only avail in the US at the moment:

Yokohama AVS Sport - 245/45YR17 89Y
Kumho ECSTA MX - 245/45YR17 96Y
Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP RFT - 245/45ZR17 89Y
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S(Zero Pressure) - 245/45YR17 ZP

So I've decided to go for the Goodyear in order to preserve the OE status and to keep the TPM's in order without the need for a repair kit.
www.elitewheels.co.uk/ did an excellent job and handles vettes well. Highly recommended if anyone else is in the area! £365 for the fronts - fitted.

Thanks for your input Tristicle
NHT are selling the Goodyear non run flats but don’t do fitting, the garage in Kingston that used to do tyres for American Carriage told me these non EMT tyres wont sit properly on my rims and run the risk of coming off the bead.
I have no experience of swapping tyres on this car front of back, and as stated am on 26000 miles which is good enough for a stet of tyres so I don’t have the excessive ware problems others have stated although its not the gripes tyre I assume it’s the torque of the car not the tyre that defective.
Pictures of shredded tyres down to the rim are concerning and not something I would like to encounter have had punctures in other cars at high speed it a bit unpleasant.

Well, like you I have done a bit of research and after our im-promptu meetup today made a couple of calls to see the status on my new set of OE Runflats.
My tyre dealer (recommended by Keith & Heather)has been holding the front set for me no problem, he has been waiting for the rears for some weeks (he was told 6 weeks ago by distributor they will be available in 2 weeks)anyway he chased them today to be told that Goodyear UK informed him they are on back order and not available for 3 months. Not being one to give up I went on Good Year web site to find out they own Hi Q tyre company, guess what I called one of their branches and he can get them delivered next day from Good year instock NOW. My dealer quoted £260 balanced and fitted, their quote was £302.79 balanced and fitted (That is per rear wheel). You make up your mind.

Anyway does anbody have any suggestions or prices in the Surrey area. LIkewise I want to stay with runflats

From previous topic www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=78087&f=100&h=0 I posted: 'Got sorted with tyres, One front and one rear for less than £350 including balancing etc. He has another pair should I need to go back or for anyone else . From Kwik Fit at Corby but can be any branch as they'll move the tyres to your branch.'

Run flats suck. Go with Pilot Sports. 100 times better tire. If your worried about a flat carry around a can of fix a flat.

Sooooooo true. I fitted Michelins and the car is transformed. It's the first time I've been able to lean on the tyres with any confidence since buying the C5. Car stays planted on the road. Same price as Goodyears though so not cheap.

Bridgestone runflats are cheaper. They're a BMW tyre and have been criticised for spoiling the ride (what a surprise). I looked at them but didn't buy as it would have been a disaster if they were the same as the Goodyears - or worse.

The only people I found who could offer a decent range of tyres from stock were Micheldever tyres, down the M3. Seem to know what they are doing and competitive on price. Also sell inflator cans.

No-one I found keeps the cheaper and well regarded Falken tyre in stock. They all say "we can get them in" for you. No doubt same applies when you get a puncture and need a new one in a rush.

Now to top it all, my wheels are blistering and I will get them re sprayed first before the new tyres are fitted this week, American Carriage cant even come up with a contact number or email address for a warrantee claim and have been pretty much less than helpful and so I will have to pay for it my self (crap after sales!) I have gone for the Goodyears because they are the only runflat ones with the correct speed rating – boring I know.

Yep thats what I had to do in the end. Pissed me off as it took like a week calling round and just ended up with the only ones available anyway!

BTW have u all seen the adverts now on the telly for Goodyear RunFlats now? (Notice they are not calling them EMT's)

Apparently run flats are hard to fit with out damaging the wheel, the new mini has run flats and one garage refuses to fit mini tyres because its easy to damage the rims,
PS. ANYONE WANTING TYRES – Don’t waste your time just go and see John at Northhants Tyres for the best deal and stock tyres
