Slightly vague question here!

I've heard tell of people using bitcoins etc directly within a mortgage/deposit for a house, given how much the currency fluctuates is there a way of using shares to help finance the buying of a house? The idea being to have the best of both worlds. Shares that could potentially rise in value (clearly they could also fall!) as well as using their value towards the mortgage/deposit, something like an offset?

Sorry for the vagaries not entirely sure what the options are, clearly since the value can fall they can't be used at their current value but some sort of average/projection or % of value?

If you're getting a regular mortgage they are not going to be flexible. If you're getting a jumbo mortgage or already have a relationship with a private bank then they will look at anything as collateral but bear in mind the more off piste you go the more you'll pay for it.

Yes.

Sell them and knock it off the amount you need to borrow smile

Wasn't this an endowment mortgage? And weren't they outlawed?

Yup I get the example yup, I'd have assumed that the value today was irrelevant and they would use something kind 50% of the average value of x amount of time to avoid an instant dip into negativity. If such things aren't available, it's fine. Just seemed prudent to see what could be done vs selling them if your reasonably convinced they will go up significantly in value

Can I have Friday's lottery numbers please?

A mate at Telewest knew they were about to tie up a deal with Microsoft. Took £50k out of his offset mortgage and bought shares. The tie up happened. The market didn't care. Shares dropped 90%. Good luck!
