Wondering if anyones been through this scenario:

Ordered 2 Macbooks from PC World on next day courier (DPD)

Sealed bag arrived and signed for but only one in the bag, label on bag says 6kg (2 units) and 1 of 1 meaning no other parcel

Label not been reapplied - all kosher on the packing

CCTV of the driver carrying the parcel in a one handed clamp style meaning it was only ever one box

Now I know this is a "classic" warehouse fraud of weighing 2 for the carrier label then hiding one or using a false weight.

Called PC World within 5 minutes and went through a procedure but no email or written proof that I have called it in. I am going to call again today to see about an email from them. The guy said the investigation would take a week or so and I would be offered a delivery or a refund assuming they agree on the short delivery.

Now I KNOW (from being around warehouses) if you need 2 high value items you order one on monday and one on tuesday anything to stop them being grouped together but this time I forgot.

It's not your responsibility to mitigate the supplier's security problems. Paid by credit card? Call your card provider and dispute the transaction.

Credit Card chargeback and let your card fraud team sort it.

Unless they have an extra one on the shelf, and the picker made a mistake... They're not going to believe you are they???

Otherwise I know what I'm going to be ordering tomorrow!

As per the pram and cot thread, they will "check their stock, speak to the packer, check the courier scales printout", and say sorry sir, there were definitely 2 in there.

Good luck and keep us informed. (Hope I'm wrong though.)

Wonder how they fiddled the weight - could two fit in the bag?

I kept the bag, its too tight for 2 and has not been resealed, normally the guy in the warehouse has a matched weight rod or ball to fool the scale if its a pre weigh scam which this would be as two were never going to be in the bag.

You'd have thought security at somewhere like PCWorld's warehouse would be pretty st-hot.

Laptop gets hidden then a large low-value item has it included and sent to a mate - thats the normal procedure I believe.

I wouldn't instantly jump to something sinister. I'd imagine the label is printed first and then the parts are picked. Most likely just a rushed warehouse operative missing the quantity and only picking one instead of two. A simple stock check at their end will prove you right.

Especially as it is probably pretty unusual to buy two of the same MacBook at once.

The packers will be being watched by CCTV, surely?

Ignore the weight thing, very few companies actually weigh their parcels, some will put a generic weight on packages. Some will have a price per parcel to a set weight so actual weight is irrelevant, i have one customer who will put 1kg on every parcel regardless of whether its a letter or a 30kg crate.

That's what I thought, probably linked up to the order picking system so it can be brought up quickly? Also I'd think the courier's systems would have the package's actual weight and dimensions so it should be easy for them to see it was their mistake.

Are they just lazy, It would be interesting to see DVSA's take on that the amount of overweight courier vans that seem to be highlighted on Plod twitter feeds.

They emailed a denial of receipt form that I scanned and we had the new laptop within 2 days - quite fair really.
