Discussion
My daughter has just changed schools at the start of this school year and started in year 6 (the last year of primary school) and have just been told she is well behind in maths - to the extent she is really struggling with times tables when she should have had these nailed by the end of year 4 - so in effect a year behind.
Her previous school stated she found maths a struggle, (as does her mum), but never was it stated she was so far behind. My daughter does not like maths - in fact she openly states she hates it, and will avoid if necessary.
Having done some awareness work on SPLDs I wonder if she is suffering from Dyscalculia, or a mild form of it. I appreciate it is a big step from not being able to do times tables to having a SPLD and there are a number of steps in between we need to take, but just reading up on it today, it sort of ties a few things together.
We are discussing with the school tomorrow the support strategy to get her up to speed this year, both at school and at home. Also, because she struggles, I appreciate she might just find it really worrying with a new school, and is not performing to her best ability yet, so rather than a SPLD, it is a lack of confidence.
Question for the floor is has anyone experienced this and are there any (in your experience) methods that work to deal with this, from confidence or SPLD point of view?

I struggled with maths, but I would not say I was a full year behind. I had extra maths lessons arranged for me privately, it was with about 5 others, and it helped a fair bit!
Then I made a stupid mistake and had to pass a college degree maths course, having quit school 3 years prior. That needed individual private tutoring, but I passed!
TL:DR, extra lessons with a much smaller class so she can learn at her own speed might help!
