Is it worth getting a SIM?
Discussion
I've got one in my A8 Black Edition.
Had it in my FFRR which most certainly needed the Data Sim as this opened up many features not available without. In the A8 this is less of a requirement, but as you say you won't get live traffic without it.
Other features such as Audi Connect (weather, petrol stations & hotels etc.) is something i rarely use & as only usually me in it i've not found a use for the in car WiFi hotspot yet.
Three had a an offer earlier this year for a 12mth Data Sim with 12GB for i think it was £30.

Google Live traffic is quite good, except couple of exceptions in past. I use petrol prices and weather from time to time. I also use hot spot when using a phone for secondary source of traffic ( I spent a lot of time on M25).
And I just discovered that when phone has MMI Connect app and is connected via wireless to the car, you have another source of music, it's called AMI the same as cable connection. You get a lot of internet radio stations. If you add some to favourites on the phone, they will show up in favourites in the car. Never tried it before, just discovered it by accident when messing with source of music on my 1000 miles drive.
I use pay as you go sim card, still on my first £10 top up on Three.

Any idea if the likes of Spotify would work via that method? Not tried using my phone in the car either connected to the AMI cable or any other method, other than Bluetooth for regular phone usage. Didn't realise an App existed. Is it called MMI Connect on the App Store? And I just discovered that when phone has MMI Connect app and is connected via wireless to the car, you have another source of music, it's called AMI the same as cable connection. I use Android version. I installed Audi app long time ago and totally forgot about it but it activates itself when phone is connected to car's wifi.
Don't use Spotify, so have no idea.
I bought cheap phone to use for cars apps and as secondary navigation. There are no free updates for Audi Nav and it becomes outdated after some time. In the last couple of days I drove through fields according to it. Even last night, it showed me route which was 2h longer than TomTom's one because it didn't have some of the roads mapped.

So to use MMI Connect, you have to create a hotspot in the car & then connect the phone to the car that way? Isn't it possible via the already connected BlueTooth or the AMI cable?
Just set it all up (what a faff) & only things it appears to offers are Internet Radio & the cars location. Spotify works independently of MMI Connect, but is via BT & the sound quality is poor along with i also assume it's using the phones Data rather than the cars.
To use MMI Connect you need to setup an account (the faff part), have the WiFi enabled in the car, connect your phone to the cars WiFi (doesn't auto connect i don't think), start the MMI Connect App on your phone & then under Media you see a new line against what looks like a Wireless Icon. Under that you have Internet Radio & Media. The media is what's located on your phone which seems pointless as you can access that via BT &/or the AMI cable. Hey ho, at least i've tried it.

I tried all that stuff 2 years ago and then forgot about apps. Also tend to forget password to myAudi, since I created some crap user for testing. The app starts itself in background when phone is connected to car wireless.
Never spotted the auto start for the app, but then i got bored very quickly when it offered nothing of interestEdited by PenelopaPitstop on Thursday 14th September 14:22
