Touran TDI chip tunes itself.
Discussion
Hello...slightly weird one here.
Last year my wife's 2007 Touran TDI (140bhp) occasionally went into reduced power mode and threw up a few "Workshop" warning messages. This happened with ever increasing frequency.
I brought it to a local garage and the diagnosis showed that the car had "upper boost limit exceeded". The mechanic said that the boost control actuator on the turbo assembly was probably jamming in the high boost position and so we changed the Turbo and every went well (but slower than previously).....until now, 12 months later, when the same behaviour has started to happen again.
It's my wife's car, I don't drive it much. But last weekend I drove about a 1000 km. My impression is that the car's performance is steadily increasing on it's own, it feels now that it might be operating at an improperly high boost level - the performance at part throttle above 2000 rpm is surprising strong, so much so that I feel I need to use less and less throttle and that the fuel economy might be improving!
I think now that the boost pressure sensor itself is (and was) at fault. Anyone ever experience anything similar?
