Alarm problem

Hi all,

My Mums car keeps sounding off randomly. Here is the wierd part: when I un-alarm the car after the alarm has sounded there are no warning tones after the two "unlocked" chirps, and no flashes on the LED?

Now every car I've had would tell you (with both beeps and LED flashes) what had caused the alarm to sound. E.G:

1 beep/flash: bonnet/boot.
2 beeps/flashes: door.
3 beeps/flashes: ultrasonic sensor.

I have actuated the door and rear clam sensors a few times incase of a bad contact, but surely if one of these were at fault the car should report this upon un-locking with a series of flashes and bleeps?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Has it got wet recently? My siren went mental and kept going off without the actual alarm ecu telling it to. Other than that it is normally one of the clam sensors but as you say you'd have thought it would beep and flash to tell you what has been triggered.

My alarm was going nuts too, and it was reporting it as a siren tamper. In actual fact, it was corrosion of the rear clam sensor.

I've already made a point of oiling it ... these things can be such a hassle.

The car has been used the last 2 days and got wet on Friday due to the weather, but the problem did not happen until yesterday evening.

WD40 all the connectors and then 'operate' each one 10-20 times.

That should sort it out, if not you'll need it looked at by an expert me thinks.

Personally I'd clean all the switch contacts with emery etc. before hauling in an expert. I didn't do that because of the alarm fault diagnostic code reporting a siren problem* which meant I paid an auto elec 70 quid and 10 quid for the switch. It could have been 10p to fix


*Which a couple of noble owners had genuinely had.

Well it's been out today and the car has now been alarmed for 8 hours with no dramas. Thanks all for your replies - hopefully it's just one of those things.

If not the WD-40 will be coming out.

The problem has now been solved - it's one of the most technical problems known to man....wait for it...A MOTH!

It had got in the car and set the alarm off a few times.

Still confused as to why there were no clues as to which sensor had been triggered though.
