Possibly in the wrong area.

So, an old school mate on FB has basically gone a bit mental and I think he needs mental help.

Is there anything anyone else can actually do?

In short, he basically believes in aliens, thinks society is the Antichrist, the 'elite' have full consciousness and we're all slaves and...well, it goes on and on.

That describes about 50% of Americans.

Some people have Facebook personas ether they post absolute junk for a variety of reasons... winding others up, as a release, etc

Others have issues... are you in touch with any of his other friends or family?

If they are a threat to themselves or others then there is 'sectioning', being taken to a place of safety where they will be assessed.

If they aren't that bad then there is little the state will do.

If they have a doctor then you could encourage him to wander off to them. There are pills, which work to an extent, but often it is seen as all part of the conspiracy.

I would do little without advice. You can make things worse, even by a casual 'pull yourself together'.

The one positive for the chap is he has a friend who is concerned for him. Has he any family who might help?

Best of luck.

Ah, it sounds like he's a disciple of David Icke. Has he mentioned the lizard people yet?
I wouldn't worry too much tbh. He's more likely to bore people to death than anything else.

It's more that it's quite out of character. I've recently done my prevent training and he's showing all the signs of someone who is vulnerable. A lot of the recent comments are linked to the recent terror attack in London. Here's a few quotes;

"Terrorist attack? Turn off the news now! Powers at be understand fully that we're conscious creators even if you Wallies aren't aware..Humans are not self aware therefore we are the A.I Artificial Intelligence we're striving to create! The elites are aware, living as gods on the Earth the selfish fks whilst suppressing the truth from us all and keeping you as their slaves!!! Spiritual, financial, military they control. They have full access to infinite consciousness which we all have a right to whilst they tell everyone there's nothing supernatural about life. Ssssh little slave".

"Certainly wouldnt work some mundane job anymore. Why would you when you can teleport yourself around your own self created dream reality. This physical existense is mundane compared to whats possible"/

"Don't believe the bullst with regards to terrorist stuff on news. Just Zionist scum creating more trouble in the name of Muslims just like they done for years. Turn your TV off and throw it out the window is the best idea
Find truth internally, not from BBC and Sky".

Lots of points about reincarnation, blood type enabling him to have out of body experiences and lots of criticism of the church. Worried he's going to do something stupid...He has recently lost a girlfriend too, as far as I understand it.

Well he's spot on when he suggests lobbing the TV out of the window.

A bloke in the village believes all this stuff, I avoid him in the pub these days, but I don't think he's dangerous.

Depending on your level of 'friendship' is there any way you can engineer meeting up so you can have a chat? There is lots of weird stuff on the internet, face to face conversation is more likely to indicate his level of 'buy-in'.

I used to deal with a lot of calls from people via 111/999 for "my brother/mate/neighbour is mental and needs sectioning". Unfortunately there is very little that can be done, and I understand how frustrating that can be for the people trying to help, but the reasoning adds up.

In order to access mental health services (and bare in mind its long waits and sub standard service unless you can get into private support, and insurance can be difficult for MH stuff as it wont act until there is a diagnosis and that can take a long time). Basically, the individual has to approach services them selves (or with support of a friend/ family member). usually via a GP, the problem here is you have something like 4 minutes to convince a GP that the person needs a referral to MH services, and often "he's a bit weird and acting out of character" doesn't cut it, as plenty of people are a bit weird and as someone above said, express "out of character" characteristics on line. Assuming he has the capacity to make a decision, retain information and understand information being given to him, that is the only official route (unless he is a risk to himself and others).

My advice, and its a bit wishywashy I'm afraid is contact some people through facebook that know him better (family, people that comment on his posts etc) and ask them if he's ok, see if other people are worried too? Then meet up with him give him a call/ PM and have a chat about normal stuff, then straight up ask him if everything is ok as some of the stuff he's posting is pretty out there and you're worried about him. Most likely he'll say he's fine, or become defensive, but at least he knows someone is worried about him enough to ask?

Did he try to blame the Freemasons too? I had a very long message from a school friend recommending me to check YouTube etc.

There are an awfully large number of people out there with similar thought processes. Unless he's an immediate danger to himself or others there's no chance he'll get sectioned. I've seen all sorts of mentally unbalanced people over the years who have fallen through the gaps in the mental health services. Is there anyone close by that can keep a good eye on him?

Alex Jones (the American radio bloke, not the Welsh bint on the One Show) has carved out a very lucrative career peddling this drivel. He has millions of followers.

I've been saying it for years, the biggest threat humanity faces is people believing st that isn't true.

I have no advice to give, not knowing the British mental health system, however I think he needs help.

I have a schizophrenic relative, and what you are describing sounds an awful lot like his postings when he's on the way to psychosis : which generally ends up with him in hospital (again).

I know a few like that, one guy I know really well, and I echo the above comment about online/Facebook personas. He is a normal-ish guy in 'real life' and seemingly very intelligent from a textbook context (he is an engineer), however if you get him started on his various conspiracy theories, or some of his political views he sounds absolutely batst insane, he has a blog and a facebook with which the batst insane side of him is showcased.

Unless he admits to a problem himself and goes to see a GP you're not going to get any 3rd party help until he harms himself or someone else. That's the way the system works. May sound uncaring, harsh or symptomatic of a broken healthcare system but being honest MH is a fiendishly complex thing that depends on a consensus of what's "normal" and that's impossible. My reality is different to almost everyone else's.
