I'm at the point of fixing the side pods and want to vent the front arches via the unused vents in the pods. Any suggestions for how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, the factory have a premoulded jig to cut the holes out, and they sell a two piece vent to go into the hole once cut. Will do it to mine soon. Am going to fitt a mesh as well to try and stop stone chips.

I'm having the factory fit the vents to my body which is due in 2 weeks. Will post pics as soon as I can.

Perfect. Had I known this was an option I would have bought it. Other than the Stack binnacle I plan to buy are there any other nice options for the car that are not on the web site (intake scoop for motor that seals against the body).

Thanks,

Ken

What is the main purpose of venting the front arches? Aerodynamic, brake cooling or is it just for looks? And is it easy to retro-fit the factory vent kit after side pods permanently fixed?

As I understand it, the vent reduces the air pressure under the wheel arch to increase front downforce. It should be used with a splitter for the best results.

It's a mod that's used to good effect on the GT car (I believe).

Anything you can do to reduce the pressure (read - build up of trapped air) under the wheel arches will make the downforce created by the splitter more effective. I have vented the tops of the bodywork as well and also painstakingly sealed the radiator to ensure the exit air goes out of the top body vent. Look at any race car and you will see these features over and over again.

I have vented the tops of the bodywork ...

Sounds like a great idea, how has this been done though (sounds a bit scary ), do you have any pics?

John, got any pics?

Whilst I was pleased with the skinning to the sides of the rad with the double skin kit and expanding foam tape, there's still a 10-15mm gap at the bottom of the rad. Air of course will go the easiest route so I intend to baffle this too. How have you forced the air up through the bonnet venturi after it's passed through the rad?

I wasn't going to worry about the upstream side of the rad. It's very tight. I had to hack a chunk of the gf off to get the bonnet to get it to even fit. The air leakage round what is left (5-10mm gap with the grill on) isn't going to be significant?

I would have thought that there would be quite a big win in removing the std Ultima splitter and replacing it with an a CF/ali honeycomb floor/splitter that covered the area in front of the wheels that is currently free space. Though it would be difficult to do this and keep it SVA compliant. Has anyone done this?

The front wheel arch vent kit can be fitted at any stage of your build but you will have to bear with us for a while as the prototype mould that we made for this job ( the mould life expectancy was about 10 pulls as we thought that only a couple of customers would want this part) needs replacing.

Kind regards
Ted

Stig,

The simple way to do this is to ge a length of right angle ally strip and fix it just in front of the rad, so that it blocks the gap. Then all you will have is a tiny gap between the top of the strip and the bottom of the rad, which you can seal with a bit of silicone, or whatever.

I'll show you the next tim I see you.
