Negotiating a lease - possible?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Just a quick question regarding leasing. I'm wondering whether it is possible to negotiate on the price of a lease - more with a main dealer, rather than a broker. We've seen the S90 offers online (£300 a month, roughly) and the our nearest main dealer has said they will match anything we can bring to them.
So that got me thinking, if there's wriggle room on the price? And if so, what am I actually negotiating? Is it them reducing the list price of the car, just like they would if you were purchasing via PCP etc or is there something else at play here?
The only reason I ask is because the S90's boot is probably a bit too small for us with 2 kids and actually the V90 would probably serve us better but I can see no similar offers for the V90 despite there being "only" a £2k increase in list price - so it got me thinking, whether it would be possible to negotiate the list price of the V90 and get it reduced to that of an S90 or thereabouts, and then ask whether it could be leased at that price.
Hopefully that makes sense?

Wouldn't it depend how much financial support the manufacturer and dealer are willing to put behind any particular model at any particular time? They may want to push the S90, but not the V90.
You can ask.
I wouldn't haggle a lot of list price, then, at the end, say you want to lease. That smacks of messing them round.
Go in and chat with the quotes you have, let them try to work a deal for you, whether it's PCP or lease.
They might tell you why the S90 is cheaper, and why they can't match the V90 to it.

Hi thanks for the reply. Last thing I want to do is mess them around and subsequently piss them off, cause that will just reduce any chance I've got so I'll definitely take that on board.
In respect of PCP, the offers are very similar for both the S90 and V90, in terms of lump sums and then monthly payments. PCH on the other hand, the pricing is definitely more aggressive for the S90 than the V90. I'm just not particularly confident in terms of understanding enough about where there figures come from when they decide their pricing to know where exactly the wriggle room for negotiation comes from.

Certainly with VAG models dealers will sometime refund part of the initial payment, but it is generally build into their advertised offer - I guess this is why the price varies a little from dealer to dealer even though it's fundamentally a manufacture lease deal.On wife's Tiguan the initial payment from our local dealer was lower than others, but they'd taken account of a £500 rebate that the dealer would send back to us after we took delivery.
