The inertial reel on both of my seat belts always seems to hang up. Sometimes I can't even lean forward to open or close the under dash air vent without taking the belt off.

Does anyone know of something better? (not for track)

They are a well known pain in the ass. My driver's belt is almost impossible to pull out from its rest position unless the car is on a downward facing slope no more than 3degrees and with no right to left camber!

I did get it adjusted once by slightly changing the horizontal alignment, it did get easier but it's a temperamental SOB and it always seems to detect when I'm in a rush to get started and becomes totally inoperative I'm going to replace it but the angle of the mounting site seems to be one cause of the problem, so will be interested in any answers you get.

You have to breathe in and let it go back in to the reel a bit more - must have the same ratchet as the handbrake

Perhaps the angle of the reel could be adjusted? I think it's only held on with one bolt so could be rotated slightyl?

It can be adjusted, but it's a trade-off between stopping the belt fraying, and letting the belt's ratched work.
I had my reel's tilted in a bit, after the first belts frayed (the metal "eye" behind the seat is above & inboard from the reel), and now they don't fray as much, but they are far more prone to locking.

Seems like TVR were just about to sell the first Chimp/Griff and suddenly thought 'Sh*t - we forgot the seatbelts - let's cobble something up.'

Bit of a shame that they never got around to fixing the problem, just carried on regardless!

I have the same problem with both. A previous thread on this (very popular topic) was to replace with racing harnesses...
