Despite the fact that the mainstream media seem to have ignored Le Mans, the world’s biggest Motorsport event, I''d like to congratulate Bentley and MG. First in Class for Bentley, and third overall is a huge achievement after a 71-year break (even if it did have an Audi engine). And for the MG to lead its class for a considerable amount of time, again after a 30 year gap is great for British Motorsport. There I''ve said my piece.... I''ll get me coat

I agree, there was next to nothing in the 'tabs' today, very sad, they more interested in the s*dding cricket pitch invasion. No one actually watches cricket do they? ;-)

Errm, shouldn't that be "Only in Class"? Never mind. It was a significant achievement to get anything home given the conditions...bet the Audi drivers would have been much happier in an A8 than an R8. Cheers, AdrianR

Er, ignored by the mainstream media? I suppose C4 isn't mainstream media... I thought Channel 4 made a fair try at it, and Penny was very enthusiastic. Mike Brewer seemed to get into the swing of things, too. Luckily the cricket was washed out so we saw more than we should. Odd though, that the section billed as the 'start' should finish 20 minutes before the start - and C4 switched over to horse racing (!). www.4car.co.uk has some good stuff on Le Mans on it, too. (I don't work for C4, or the media) Edited by muley on Monday 18th June 12:20

C4 hardly showed anything though. I thought they had rights to the whole thing yet there wasn't any live action at all was there? Eurosport seemed to tbe the only option.

Sorry, I woz only reffering to the newspapers. I watched hours of Lemans on Eurosport on Saturday thanks to the washed out tennis. but thought it odd they only had a couple of hours on sunday. Didn't Eurosport do the entire 24hours last year? I thought I watched it forever last year. The Sun, had a tiny column mentioning the Bentley's 3rd place and that was it. even Metro (freeby in london) at least had a few more words and a piccy.

CH4 coverage would have been ok if they hadn't had any competition. However, Eurosport made them look thoroughly amateurish. I guess we were lucky that the tennis was washed out, as I watched nearly all their Saturday coverage and thought it was excellent. And you couldn't have asked for a more exciting opening few hours. I believe ES had a few hours live coverage last year, with regular updates etc - don't believe they had 24hrs coverage! And to be fair to them, the first 4hrs will always be more interesting than the last 4, so the balance seemed about right. (If only because half the cars have dropped out by dawn.) CH4 looked very silly when they billed their last 15min segment as "the exciting finale" - this turned out to be purely footage of the Audis doing their synchronised swimming thing. Is it true that at one of the Yank 24h races this year the Corvette cars sat in the pits for an hour taking publicity shots cos they were so far ahead? Funny old game... Anyway, roll on next year, and let's all hope for more coverage!

Er, mainstream media? There was absolutely NOTHING about Le Mans in the Times Sports supplement on Monday (apart from the Audi ad!) Still there were pages and pages of riveting tosh about cricket !! If I had a subscription, I'd cancel it! ..off now to eat a slice of humble pie

Does that Audi parade lap annoy anyone? I seem to remember last year that the GT class were still racing up to the finish for position, and suddenly came across near stationary Audi's 3 a'breast (just like the M25;o) It basically f**ked the end of their race. I think its wrong, thats what the 'after' finish parade lap is for. (rant off)

There is no "After Finish" lap, they cross the line for the final time after 4pm and that is it, they go to Parc Ferme at the top of the pits - assuming they can get through the swarms of marshalls - wouldn't fancy being one of them if anyone was racing up to the end, there is not much room to stop between the start/finish and the top of the pits!! Anyone else notice that the Union Flag (Jack) was upside down on the podium ================ Graham and Rosie

Upside down Union Flag, a distress signal I believe. Obviously because they did not win!! Sparks P.S. I'm sad enough to know how the distress thing came about!!
