If Stanislav Petrov hadn't decided the warning of 5 US ICBMs being launched was a false alarm and the USSR had retaliated, what would have been the sequence of events from our point of view?
The incident is reported to have occurred on Monday Sept 26 1983 shortly after midnight Moscow time. So between 10 and 11 PM here. Would the late night movie have been interrupted by an instruction to 'protect and survive'? Would the war be over by breakfast time?
Is it possible the Soviets would have decided on an equally limited strike against the US or would they have pressed every 'Launch' button they could find?
