Ready Meals - Recommendations

I know in a perfect world we would prepare a freshly cooked meals every day, however at the end of a long day you sometimes just want to throw something into the Microwave. So whats good and whats not so good?

For lunch today i had Waitrose Chilli Chicken Ramen, it was sooo good




So whats good out there?

I'm a fan of the M&S meals, can't really go wrong with them.

I once bought an M&S Chicken Arrabbiatta that was ok.

Not being a snob but there is no point me buying ready meals as I don't own a microwave. By the time I have cooked one of these in the oven I could have made something nicer.

I rate the Aldi "best/finest/?" chicken tikka masala. Perfect for a quick lunchtime snack. Don't like their rice much though.

I've never tried Aldi's ready meals, will give them a go. Like you said ideal for a quick lunchtime meal

My Local Budgens in Ascot has a whole section dedicated to this brand, will give it a whirl

I wouldn't recommend any, if time's an issue - employ a chef/caterer.

Marks and Sparks. They have it all just about, and enjoyable to the point of actually wanting to eat them. I always have an M&S ready meal in the freezer that can be cooked from frozen.

Agree with M&S, quite like their curries and the large round naans are as close to a curry house one I've had.

Really? I had a couple recently and thought they were awful in comparison to the Waitrose versions which are the same price.

Nothing wrong with the occasional ready meal.

For me it's all about having a few store cupboard ingredients to get them a bit more interesting. In the past Aldi have done a grim-looking family sized pad thai style noodle thing, which when you add a splash of fish sauce, sweet chilli sauce and a squeeze of lime starts to taste really nice in a quick and dirty way.

The recent revelation has been Iceland though, since they've gone a bit more upmarket. They do some frozen fish/seafood dishes that you just heat up in a pan and stir through pasta. Again a few fresh herbs, splash of olive oil and squeeze of lemon does no harm. This sort of thing:

I can highly recommend these. Yes, more expensive than your usual supermarket choice, but so much better.
