Good evening

I WAS a hug Audi fan. I have owned several Audi's and so did my father. I remember in high school lusting after a RS2 when my friends wanted Cosworth's.

I feel Audi or the VW group are getting too infused. Audi is loosing its identity and Skoda, Seat and VW are devolving, elaborating and remodelling their design. Things like interior, shut lines and crease lines are becoming to "VW"

I look at the original TT and the interior and exterior look more bolder and futuristic than the more recent models.

To be fair it is not just Audi or the VW group. Manufacturers design a car and rescale it to fit a market segment.

The Mercedes c, e an s class all look the same. Jaguars are the same. Where are all the coupe's? A coupe now is a three door salon. The only car recently that have me the wow factor is the McLaren 720s. The pictures make it look like a Munter but in the flesh it is stunning!

To be fair, VW's styling has completely lost the plot.

Anyone seen that new Arteon thing? Creases everywhere for no reason. Didn't know when to stop. They took the already odd influence of the Skoda Superb and turned it up to eleven.

And the new Polo? Inside, cheap plastic everywhere. And the creases for now reason are now there on the outside.

Stand at the front of a new VW and count the number of horiztonal lines. Then count how many actually do something...

Because I'm bored:

The Arteon has seven (I counted!) horizontal trims on the front. Two of which appear to be something to do with a radiator grille and, thus, could be argued to not be solely pointless decoration... What are the other five for?

Maybe the photographer on the TV ad had a hand in the design... scratchchin

You should be ashamed of yourself. I hope he doesn't see this.

Looking around the industry there are people who have moved along, progressed or found their mojo. The new Aston looks like they've stepped into another century, the Lexus LC looks like they've employed Zagato, the BMW 8 series looks pretty nuts. Mercedes, although not visually groundbreaking, are looking pretty again. VAG, yes, becoming quite anonymous. When there's the likes of KIA starting to look very similar you have to be worried.

Yes, it seems a bit of a coup really. It's frightening how much influence one man has over the design language of a brand and how he can regurgitate it at the next place!

And the new Stinger - which is getting rave reviews this very week - is a result of their acquisition of the former head of BMW's Division...

I believe Walter de Silva leaving is part of the reason that it has lost some of that early essence..
