Crosley record players....are they ok?

I know they're not a decent brand but teenage daughter wants one, mainly because of how it looks. If it isn't the best audio quality I'm not bothered, however I've read that the needle pressure can be too much and damage the actual records. Is this true?

You can only warn her, but it's her records and her choice. If your records are being used that is another matter!
I think the vertical tracking force (the effective weight of the stylus on the record), the fact it isn't adjustable and the stylus profile and material make the Crosley a bad idea for playing records; let's face it, they are expensive after all!

Certainly won't be letting her near my vintage collection.

Couldn't believe the price of vinyl in HMV today! I just don't want her wasting her money firstly on a rubbish player and secondly scratching all her records. I can see other record players which I think also look fashionable but they're about £300!
