stopped working the other day, stuck in the middle of the screen, tried to squirt water and get them unstuck but didnt work. anyone knows what to check and where? btw both steering wheel buttons dont work, so i think unlikely to be the culprits?

Thanks

Assuming its not mechanical I'd first check the Fuse, Motor Connector, Park Switch and worst case scenario, the wiper control box in the footwell.

Press the buttons and listen for noise coming from motor, if it is running then may be the gear wheel is knackered. if so then Adrian venn is your only hope

Park switch is on the side of the motor under the F2 panel on the passenger sidE.

I seem to remember that you need to remove them expansion bottle and develop multiple wrists in order to get at it but it is doable.

It's very unlikely you'd have both buttons pack up simultaneously unless its the ribbon cable connecting them, but that wouldn't account for the wipers stopping mid screen, they would still return to the park position. I'd look elsewhere, sounds like either major mechanical failure or much more likely electrical. Check the state of the Fuse and the connections to the motor and the control box first.

Is there a faint burning smell in the area where the wiper motor is fitted?

Don't go for the uprated motor from TVR parts - it doesn't fit. Go for the rebuild, mine works brilliantly afterwards.

The motor and gears are under the removable panel in front of the screen. Motor is located beside the the coolant reservoir. The wipers are a really old design used in minis and other old Austin Morris's etc. It features a wire rack that runs in tubes between the motor and the wiper boxes. One end is attached to a crank arm inside the gearbox which is driven by a worm gear on the motor. The wiper boxes have cogs that engage in the flexible wire rack so mechanically it's very straightforward. The motor is activated via the control box which in turn is activated by the buttons. Once the wipers start to move the park switch closes and this provides power to the motor until the crank has done a full revolution whereupon a cam on the crank opens the park switch and will stop the motor if the wipers are turned off. Either your rack has busted/jammed or there's an issue with power getting to the motor.
