Thinking of selling up.....

I've had my Chim for almost 2 and a half years now and love it to bits, but the time has come I think for the dream to end.
I'm thinking that the car deserves to go to someone that can keep it in the manner it deserves to be kept in. I've been using it pretty much as an everyday car since I've had it and she has become a little run down. Because I do so many miles in it, the service, repair, and petrol costs has put me in a world of debt that I need to get out of!! Mainly cosmetic problems with the motor, Engine-wise, she's never missed a beat.
It could do with new suspension, the current one is a little squeeky. I need to take her back to the garage that did the light upgrade and get the blisters that have formed on the joins fixed. A new dashboard is needed. Hood could do with a recovering maybe too. Other than that the car is fine.
Extra's include, MA chip, Zertec type-r HL upgrade, rear afterburners, Adjustable suspension (leda at the mo - may replace soon with GAZ), lot's of Leven bits, Zertec exhausts and more I've forgoten about I'm sure.
So what do you reckon I'd get for the motor?? It's on 102,500 miles at the mo.

I know what you mean. I've doubled the mileage on an S3 in 3 years, used it virtually everyday and spent a fortune, really, really enjoying myself. I always thought I'd never drive anything else, but an enforced period off the road due to a numpty trying to kill me has convinced me of the merits of a daily hack. £650 on an old Audi 80tdi
(Cheers Mike) that costs half the running costs of the TVR and with the miles I do I'll be in profit in a few months. Its no where near the same car, but it gets me from A to B and means that the old girl can be maintained properly at long last. There are a few of us here in the last year or so who have gone the same way, definately worth thinking about..
Same here really, I've got an old Celica ST182 model sitting at home waiting for a few little bits to be done on it, I think I need to spend a couple of years driving around in that and saving some cash in reality. It's a great (and cheapish) car to drive and run, and is just "hassle free" motoring.
Also there are bunch of other cars I want to own in my life and I need to start saving for them!!
I love my Tiv to bit's, and will definately own another, but the time has come for me to say "I really can't afford this car!!"
It hasn't really cost me much recently, but the first year of owning it was a few grand.

i bought an old nail last year and haven't looked back. the tvr gets the attention it deserves ( lots ), the nail gets the attention it deserves ( none! ), i'm better in pocket and mind ( don't have to rely on the 'fun' car, and don't have to keep beating up the garage to get it back/loan car etc. etc. )
mine's only going now because with the nail, the 'fun' car needn't be even remotely practical

That was the original plan and reason behind buying the Celica. But I've had to take a long hard look at my financial situation and I've come to the conclusion that it really must go.

As I mentioned though, It's got blisters where the HL upgrade joins are, 2 alloy's slightly scuffed, needs a hood recovering, new dashboard and is on 102500 miles.
OK, maybe more like £9000-£10000!!

A hood recvovering is about £500 aparently.
The suspension (Leda - fitted by last owner) is a little tired. It squeeks and moans over speed bumps, the springs have relaxed a bit and I can hear them clicking/moving in their mountings on full lock, and it bottoms out/bumps over big(ish) potholes. I was thinking of fitting some GAZ or AVO shocks myself for about £400.
Bodywork-wise, the garage that did the HL upgrade will hopefully fix the blisters, and there are a few other bits on the bodywork that need minor attention.
Edit: to answer your question, there suspension has been like this for well over a year, it's more irritating than essential.

If you're on a budget, check the classifieds/ask one of the aftermarket suspension specialists to source you a good set of used std dampers. Should only cost a couple of hundred quid (as would the hood, I'd expect). I threw a set of rear griff dampers out last week (sorry!!).
Wheels are about 50quid each for fixing, and the paint blisters should be free as it's as a result of the work you had done.
I'd be tempted to get it A1 (if you can find the money) to get the best price. If you're in a rush, then you'll have to price is accordingly and find a hands-on buyer.

I've been thinking about this. I'd like to get it tip-top, and I haven't ruled out keeping it for the summer and doing it up a little bit. With the high mileage though, surely it couldn't go for more than £11000??

Probably not. I seem to remember a >100k car going for 8500-9000 before (though it was probably standard).
Given all the extras you may be able to command more, but there will be a limited market because of the:
a) mods
b) mileage
You may also want to consider these (no relation) to fix the squeeky suspension!

True, most older threads see to quote about £500 or thereabouts.

I suppose it depends what's wrong with the existing one (could it be repaired/recoloured?)
