Couldn't see a topic for this, so thought I would start one
I picked up this game on Steam 2 weeks ago after watching a guy on Twitch playing. I would call it a mix between Settlers, Prison Architect and Civilisation and it is addictive.
I am currently playing on Vanilla on medium difficulty and find playing "a quick half hour" ends up finishing at 2am only because I realise the time and need to be at work in the morning.
The principles are that you control a team of survivors of a crash (or one person, depending on your level of difficulty you choose) and you build base in any biome you choose (Snow, dessert, forest etc) each with its own unique advantage and disadvantage. The end game is to develop your resources and technology to re-build a ship to get off the planet, but I am having so much fun that I haven't even started building my ship yet
There are also endless mods for new furniture, turrets and even mods which change the whole game to Zombie Survival, Alien Invasions etc.
Well worth the money!

It is a good game, I've been playing it for a few years now (it only appeared on steam a year or two back, had been available from the developer's website prior to that for a couple of years). I know what you mean about it being addictive, I get hooked on it whenever I play it for a week or two before drifting away to something else.
One of the mods I like to use (can't remember the name of it now though!) allows you to create your own start, designing the characters, skills, equipment etc. I'd use that to create a colony landing rather than survivors crash landing. It felt a little like cheating at first, but it's not long until your original supplies have dwindled and team members have died due to attacks.
All in all a good fun game.

Ah, I think I know which mod you mean - named something like "Prepare properly". I did see that but thought like you mentioned was a bit too much like cheating.
I'm trying to stay as vanilla as possible at the moment until I get bored of the game and "need" mods. Only thing I have installed is Extended Prosthetics so I can heal some of the injuries which you cant do in vanilla

It could be seen as a bit of a cheaty mod, but if you use it properly you can create more of a scenario for yourself as a challenge. Plus you can remove the super game-ruining traits like pyromaniac!
I also bought this a couple weeks back, have sunk many hours into it since. There's something endlessly addictive about trying to create a colony that is almost self-sustaining. The Call of Chthulu mods are well-worth downloading too.
