MX5 RF - Wifes New Car

MX5Wife needed a new car for work, naturally I only had myself in mind so steered her in the 'right direction' away from the likes of a mazda 2, vw polo, fiat 500 etc, so she ended up with one of these. Its a 1.5 RF, as poverty spec as it comes. I've got long legs and there is no steering column reach adjustment so I can only use 3/4 of the steering wheel because my knees are in the way but its a fun car with the roof down, and 60mph feels quick enough to have plenty of fun in. It is also as small as a shoe.
Its actually got me thinking about replacing my Megane RS with something a little less harsh given the RS needs driving at 10/10ths to really enjoy.

My mrs. changed her Suzuki Swift a few years back for a mk3 MX-5 (I gently nudged her in that direction too), I think I miss it more than she does now. Like you guys, I found it more fun to drive than my own car at the time, a heavily modified SEAT Leon Cupra R.
Similar experience to me. My Mrs changed her Smart for a mk3 MX5 and I enjoy driving it more than my previous Focus ST and Clio 182. My mrs. changed her Suzuki Swift a few years back for a mk3 MX-5 (I gently nudged her in that direction too), I think I miss it more than she does now. Like you guys, I found it more fun to drive than my own car at the time, a heavily modified SEAT Leon Cupra R.

I cannot fit in either though and the RF is properly bad... knees pressed against the dash board or head crushed against the roof (so I have to angle my head to fit and look at everything sideways and even then all I get to see is the sun visor). I wished they didn't make it so small, just a few more inches and I'd have been in there!

Got an RF 2.0 GT (same Machine Grey colour) and my wife has an Abarth 124. Yep, both cars are a bit tight if you are much over 188cm, but the RF is a peach of a thing to drive and I too came from a Megane RS250 Cup.
Thing is in Aus....where the government uses Road Revenue cameras to constantly gouge the poor motorist...cars like the Megane don't make a lot of sense (unless you like handing over cash to the government). The RF is fun at 60kph driving to the shops. I love it.

Thanks all, had to laugh at how many Megane RS owners have come in to say they sold for an MX5!
I was expecting to get back in my 275 to find it was like a medieval torture device but it was fine, still great fun (on the limit of course...) and is leagues ahead of the MX5 when pressing on, especially in twisties.
Drove the MX5 to work again today in some awful weather, still a really fun car, oddly I find is most fun at about 5/10ths. I really do like it and I know my wife is thrilled with it. I am still thinking of selling the meg and then maybe getting an s2000 (getting on now) or an MX5 but I am not sure if its wise for the occasions we will need a boot or 5 seats in which case I am not sure what would cut the mustard.

The Megane RS is an absolutely cracking car. They are brilliant and freakishly capable. On a tight 2nd gear backroad I’ve had a (capably driven) Cayman S admit he was “driving the wheels off” to keep up with me. The Megane is a triumph of commonsense over physics. The MX5 RF is every bit as much fun at half the pace but it has a purity and delicacy that the Megane can’t quite match. I’ve owned 18 cars. Both the RS and RF are in my all time top 5, but I think the RF is my all time favourite.
