Pics and Unread behaviour

Currently viewing PH on a mobile via a slow Wi-fi. Could I suggest that picture placeholders are used so that threads don’t move about as the pictures load up?
Secondly, logged in behaviour is taking me to new posts in thread since last visit. I would rather it did unread posts. Is this possible?
