This article seems to think so, and it sounds like it not being denied either.
I find the content of this article surprising though, is it not usually standard for these things to be admitted to much later down the track?

Lots of concepts are tested, often using smaller scale models. That doesn't always mean that a full size operational aircraft will end up being produced.

The US Air Forces X-37 spaceplane is a good example. It may, or it may not, lead to a larger craft based on its principles.
