Weird.

I have ADSL broadband connected via a splitter/doubler so I can use the phone as well. It's worked perfectly for 2+ years.

Today, I'm getting bad static on the line - maybe the splitter has died? - and each time I pick the phone up to make a call, I lose the broadband connection. However, it re-synchronises afterwards.

I've jiggled the connectors about to no avail - is this a common problem?

Its actually a filter to separate the voice and data. I guess if its died you'd get the kind of effect you're describing...

Try using a different splitter on the phone point. If you can borrow a mate's one or something that you know works then try this on the socket. Chances are there may be a problem with yours, you've had it for a few years so it may just have died.

It seems like that to me because the only time the splitter really needs to work is when voice and data are attempting to share the line.

If you can't get hold of a working one then I don't think a new one will cost too much.

Thanks - I'll try that. I'd much rather it was a £3 filter than a punch-up with the immoveable rockface that is BT...

Not phones or filters. BT give you a handy four minute message telling you how to fix it yourself  because if they send an engineer out and it's your fault - guess what? They bill you...
