Wandered into PC World with a friend who was looking for a computer desk, but i got side tracked at the camera section.

So i had a play with the 350D, and I do kinda like it. Alot.

After playing with a 300D and D70 side by side in the States last year, the D70 felt a bit better. The 300D felt a little bit asleep whereas the D70 felt sharp. I'd still buy Canon as I'm a Canon person - but the 300D wasn't enough to make me make that purchase.

The 20D on the other hand was a different ball game. It was sharp and felt good in the hand. Easily better than the D70 but then its a got higher price.

However, the 350D has that same crispness the 20D and D70 have. Cant describe it.

If i had of had a card on me and wasnt busting for a toilet I'd of returned with a 350D yesterday. I'm trying to find excuses today not to buy one.

Just thought i'd share that with you all.

(i never buy things that sit on a shelf so if i buy something i must use it. i bought a gps several years ago deliberately to waste money and show i could do it. but i just couldn't do it. the gps is always in the car with me.... so as much i want a DSLR i havent got time to properly "use" it...)

Someone will be along in a moment to have a Canon/Nikon pop

Meanwhile, I'll say that the feel and handling makes a lot of difference. It was definitely one contribtory factor towards the D70 for me.

My previous film cameras had included F90X and F100. Whilst it was undoubtedly a capable camera, I bought the F100 secondhand by mail order having not handled one and assuming it would be like the F90. Well basically I hardly used the F100, the 90 was a dream in comparison....

...so one person's camera is just another person's bag of bits!

I must admit, the 350D is a nice camera. Haven't taken any pics with it, but spec wise it does sound good.

My problem is the size. It's blooming uncomfortable in my hands and the switches don't feel up to my D70's standard.

Conclusion: I'm not changing

Good for a price match

As for size, add the battery grip and you have a managable camera, not a giant . . .

If it was financially worthwhile and Canon released a kickass camera I'd be tempted. The Canon/Nikon debate is just a laugh as far as i'm concerned. Couldn't give a monkies what make it was.

i expect Simpo, Scooby etc will be getting their Rico voodoo dolls out now...

I'd still consider a 1dsmk2 if i had the cash needed, although it would be a shame as i've got 2 lenses for the d70 and more coming... hhmm

I bought a 350D a few days ago - very pleased with it so far. The size (or lack of) hasn't been a problem for me, you support it by the lens mostly anyway.

One of my favourite shots so far...

350D + 18-55
30s @ F5.6
200ISO
Shot in RAW and then a little tweakery to the exposure compensation and white balance stuff

Go for it, you won't be disappointed

I made a different decision actually.

I cannot justify £700 for a new camera as I have other priorities. However, compact digital cameras are not giving me the flexibility I require, and I really do need something as work is pilling up, so I'm putting £250 aside to buy an early EOS digital body.

I dont need anything spectacular as its only for web work.

And wouldya believe about 30 minutes later a friend phoned up - and said "I thinking of getting a 20D", so i offered him £250 for his 6 month old 300D which hes accepted in principle!
