Well I'm about to take my 911 for it's annual service 50,000 miles on the clock. This is my first porker and first service. Can anyone help with whaty I should be aware off, approximate price and good dealers around the west london or m4 corridoor area?

Thanks in advance

Which 911, and is it still in warranty?

Are you looking for an OPC stamp in the book or a good service from proper mechanics at sensible prices?

If the latter, i can recommend Northway (a respected independant) who are very close to the OPC at Reading (junction 12 of the M4, about 30 mins from LHR).

VS
(just a happy customer)

If you're looking for an OPC service then phone around - they don't all charge the same. At my last service, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive quote was £300

I'd take it anywhere except an OPC. Parr may be a little far but probably one of the very best. Highly trained staff and decent prices. Won't take your pants down like an OPC.

I use Tognola Engineering in Datchett, just off the M4. They've done top work on my RS! Speak to Peter or Greg 01753 545 053.

Well it's a 1998 996, I would prefer to take it to an independent but it's got a book full of OPC stamps so I guess I have to continue in order to maintain the resale value. So I guess phnonong aropund is the best option, any got opinions on some good or bad OPC's?

My car had a full book of OPC stamps too. I too went to an OPC. Biggest mistake of my life. Won't make the slightest bit of difference to resale, epsecially once you've accounted for the money and hassle you've saved.

996 - make sure you get the rms checked

as far as opc`s are concerned, i think that for a 993tt you need to be choosy but for your 996 they can all do the job

Thanks Ace & co...interesting you say that exactly the opposite to what I've been told by a number of 996 owners? Anyone else car to join the debate? Maybe I'll start another thread

All the well respected independants earned that respect.

When you come to trade-up time I would guess that the OPC will use "non-OPC serviced" as a good starter to negotiate the trade-in price as low as he can.

Depending on their customer type, Independant Porsche sellers won't bat an eyelid and those in the know I bet would give you more for a JZ serviced car than for ones serviced by certain OPC's.

By that I mean if they trade mainly to joe public buying his first Porsche then the book full of OPC stamps will sell.

If he is selling more specialist cars to the more knowlegable customers then it wouldn't matter.

All IMHO of course...

hi dre911 , for a 996 I think I'd stick with OPC and not break the sequence . I say this with the next buyer / owner in mind , who is not after a 993 or classic aircooled 911 but will likely have a luxury sporting car mindset where appearances are everything. Why look like you were trying to save money on servicing?
On the other hand as its an early 996 that will have already suffered a big chunk of depreciation it should not be so critical as for a newer model. Also the OPC will cost you more and probably be carried out by less experienced mechanics than a specialist...can't win !

Not wrong there mate...personal preference is that I want and indi but I also know I want to sell in the next 18months so I want to maximise my resale potential.
