I have been working at a place, and it turns out there are some stupidly over priced chairs that are stashed away unused and unloved and I am wondering whether I should be making an approach to try and purchase them with a view to making a quick buck!

The chairs in question are 2001 Fritz Hansen 'Swan' chairs finished in red fabric. From what I have seen they are in good shape but need a good clean.

They person who owns them knows exactly what they are and suggested they might be worth £1500 each ( there are 6) if they weren't in such a state.

I was thinking about offering £800-1000 each, having them professionally cleaned and then selling them on. Having checked online, the chairs go for approx £3k brand new..god knows why.

So, can any 'experts' tell me if it is even worth getting involved with, or would I find it hard to find a buyer for them as second hand items at maybe half the price of new ones?

It's a big risk, so I don't want to even get involved if I might get stuck with the bloody thingssmile

Oh Shuvi, PH's own pound shop DelBoy and his monthly loveable wheezes of making/saving a few quid.

I would start here

I am sure I am not the only person on pistonheads that doesn't mind making a bit of cash..

And there aren't any 'swan' chairs on eBay.

But judging by the price of the 'egg' chairs I don't think there is any mileage in this particular venturesmile

Third one down of the link I supplied above.

Sold for two and a half bags. Come on Shuvi, at least pretend to make an effort!

"Fritz Hansen Arne Jacobsen Danish original swan chairs and swan settee sofa with original fritz Hansen coffee table. Lovely grey wool fabric in very good condition. This furniture is highly collective, with original swan settees neon hard to find. Grab a stylish bargain"

Well, that is the right style , just without the sofa and table..

I guess if you broke it down the two chairs would only be about £600 each, so definitely not worth getting involved with!

Ok, I have a few hundred thousand witnesses to that offer wink Does that constitute a contract?

I am going to speak to them next week to test the water , it can't hurt to ask..

It is obvious that the prices that were in my head were way out but that doesn't mean a deal can't be made. I would now be thinking about offering much less and selling them for much less. I don't even know yet how much it would cost to have them professionally cleaned, or indeed what condition they are all in.

I will make some enquiries though, at the very least I will learn something about ugly over priced chairs!

My brother is a furniture dealer. Nice chairs

He sends them to Denmark for re upholstery in leather at the same place FH use. Finish is superb. It costs a bit but then he can offer effectively a new chair for a good chunk off retail price
